    Fair enough; I don't like tulips, although I'm not quite sure why.

    Think I have plenty to be going on with here, many thanks all. Just need some dry weather now!

      One other thought; silly question, probably, but would it work well to mix some poppy, foxglove and forget-me-not seeds, cast them around the area, rake in a little and then add a light covering of compost?

      Actually, I dislike the frilly ones too.
      I am a firm believer that diversity of tastes is what makes forums worthwhile.

      Mix in with sand and spread around. I wouldn't cover any of these (but then I wouldn't sow FmeNots as I have a full time battle with these already).

      I agree with Longk. When you've got forget me nots, they won't let you forget them. They self seed and are very difficult to get rid of. :)
