Jean - if we are talking of the tall 'Malepartus', I honestly have no idea, I have only just planted mine. But reading on one of the pages I Googled, it said you can carefull detach bits to propagate but that it doesn't like its roots to be disturbed. That says to me that it probably is not a problem, even though you might have to dig some out if it expands too much. The real problem plants are thing like Dandelion (and even Acanthus) where every bit of root that you leave regrows into a full plant.

I think the typha can be invasive because of the fact that it is growing in marginals and can move about easily. The miscanthus tends to for large clumps and mine certainly hasn't spread. We are on pretty dense clay which I guess could hold it back. [IMG] I have a small typha variety growing in a lined water filled barrel :D

Miscanthus varieties are many - they can be very tall (6 ft.+) but not invasive in my experience. Have just lost a couple in the house move and now looking to replace a they are reliable and great at the back of the borders.

Your bullrush sounds like Pennisetum glaucum. I bought a 'Purple Majesty' a couple of years ago and it was lovely - most striking. I was told that it was an annual, and that you could save the seed. But I never could find any seed on it. I didn't even know where to look. Does anyone have any experience of this plant? http://plants-magazine.co.uk/plants.php?PlantId=7

[IMG] This is a grass I fell in love with at the Cambridge Botanicle Gardens....... Pennisetum Vellosum.
Now I know it's not hardy so realy needs to be treated as an annual.
I sent for some seed on line, not realising it has come fom New Zealand....just noticed it is just germinating..........So looking forward to emulating the photo......fingers crossed.

That looks really nice roders. The big problem is finding space to grow everything that you like.
