Re Foremost wonder if its the soil they are grown in that gives the flavour?

I reckon its the manure you put on them that gives the nice taste.

And before anyone says it, you put the manure on before you plant, not at the dinner table! :hehe:

Good year for spuds all round so far I would say. My maincrops, PFA and Cara are looking amazing.

I have found a good receipe for tasteless spuds...Cook gently in thier skins peel when cool enough to handle then drop them in Hellmans Mayo in which you have put a teaspoon of curry powder in ...even better the next day. Oh perhaps this should have gone in the receipe section. sorry....

Excellent yield, tuber size and flavour.

My Pink Fir Apple are still in flower and about 4 foot high! I didn't plant mine till 11th May. I'm expecting great things from them this year. Hope you didn't try peeling them Kristen!

    Ah!!!! BLIGHT.##

Have pulled all the tops of the plants, and am hoping for the best.

Will try to get them all dug before the tubers are all infected,IF they are not already done for"

Going by everyone's experiences on here, there is a lot of blight this year.

Arran Pilot earlies for me, however, they taste different grown in Cornwall. Grown in the Midlands they taste better. So, is it the soil, or the water the'r'e boiled in?

Hi folks. My 'favs' have always been Arran Pilots. It seems that others too are in favour in that that they too grew them this year. Would it be fair to say that these came out on top for flavour ?
    Cheers...freddy.

Just read this, the amazing thing is I have not lost any stored potatoes at all.

I had about the usual number of actual potatoes from each plant, but there were a lot of small and medium ones, and very few large ones!

I have put this down to not having used any growmore, as I had none when I planted the seed.
I thought I would be OK as I had used lots and lots of stable manure.
I usualy have some manure and also artifical fertilizer, so it would seem that manure on it's own is practically useless!

I am prepared for the coming season though, one 25kg bag each of Growmore and FB&B.

    cheers
