I can't drink it as it turns me nasty - quickly. And I do mean really nasty.

Here, here. Better still a cognac or an armagnac.

Could be that brandy is your poison. Stella is a common one in some people. T'other half turns nasty on gin. They say there is a poison for everyone.

@longk - that is interesting, that is exactly what Gin does to me. It's such an extreme aggression/nastiness too, it really is remarkable. I can't stand the stuff anyways so thankfully it's a non-occurrence

As for cold treatment and medicinal qualities - Drambuie is the one!

As I say, it is said that there is one for everyone. Stella is notorious and is commonly called "Wife Beater" which needs no explaining. All anyone needs to do is look at me for a split second too long and I'm kicking off if I've been on whiskey.

I once went into a pub and asked for a Drambuie Shandy and a Lemon Doughnut. I'd say they're still looking after me! :) :) :)

An ex-girlfriend of mine lived off whiskey and coke (cola, not the other 'coke'). She was a lovely girl. Not very bright though.

Can't stand the stuff, even the smell of it. As a child, if we didn't eat all our food, my stepfather (a violent alcoholic) forced us to drink a shot of neat whisky. Being brought up in South Africa, we had either sweet potato or pumpkin with just about every meal (used over there like we use potatoes over here), both of which make me retch, so I had to drink a lot of it.

On a brighter note, the woman who married my stepfather after he and my mother divorced ended up murdering him (using whisky) because he used his fists/the whip once too often. She was a nurse and crumbled some sort of sleeping tablets in his whisky, then whilst he was asleep she put a pillow over his face. She ended up getting a suspended sentence, so happy ending all round.

I should write a book, I really should.

Domestic abuse is a nightmare. I once intervened on behalf of an ex. She had said nothing but had started wearing make-up/foundation (she never did as she didn't need it) and one day I cornered her and lifted her blouse slightly - the bruising to her lower abdomen said everything. I put a hand on her shoulder as I walked off and the whole wordless exchange was over. I went and sought him out and gave him a kicking. The result of my intervention (interference) was that he went home and gave her a beating.
What was really sad was that she sent me a letter saying that she knew what would happen but that it was worth it just to see somebody stand up to him and hurt him.
His violence towards her was not drink related. His father was a known wife beater so I guess that it is just in the blood.
