Maybe we can't achieve the heat that the commercial compost makers achieve, so
I was thinking of buying one of those galvanized incinerator dustbins and putting the weeds in there, and was wondering if the ash could be used as a fertilizer...........Aldi had them
on a special last week for £17.99

We used to have a few of them when I was a kid. My dad used to use them to burn his model aeroplanes that were right offs.

After a couple of fires you find the whole thing quickly turns into a rust bucket as soon as it rains and then just as quickly disintegrates.

I'd recommend a terracotta chimemia personally.

    Ditto!!!!

I was able to secure a pot of these from Mrs Shy Knee last year ( who spent at least a good hour or two muttering under her breath to anyone who may be eavesdropping: "Someone wanted forget-me-nots!" ... :heehee: ).

And, true to form, this year I now have a pretty patch of them  (Plus, Californian Poppy!)

That trusty pot will accompany me to my forever home later this year (and a mahoosive downsize it will be gardenwise!) because I adore them :dbgrtmb:

"M" - oh dear! you will have several patches next year as the seeds stick to your clothes or shoes and get carried elsewhere.........we have loads this year and they make a lovely backdrop for tulips amid the haze of pale blue, but they may well be over by Open Day, so we are pulling up some now.......you really did make me chuckle with your comments - I would love some pink or white forget me nots. Will save some for you. Hope to see you in May. (Mrs. Shiney)

That's what I thought. I've been battling this weed for years in my front garden bed.

I'm sure I took one home too, mrs shiney pulled one out of the paving in front of the greenhouse and gave me an odd look as she potted it up for me. It didn't make it through the winter.

I got a packet of Chinese Forget me not seeds from the seed swap that I will be sowing once in Mr Jane's garden once we work out what to do with it.

Jane, we could pot some more up for you if you want. At the moment I'm digging them out by the sq m, and binning them, as I need the extra space in the veg plot. Still got a few million to go! :heehee:
