If you genuinely don't know what it is, @pete, how will you know when someone identifies it correctly? :loll: Some of us like to sleep at night, you know ;)

Good to know it's keeping you up all night. ;)
I thought I'd ask for ideas here so I can get some sleep.

Some of the gardens were fenced off for 'improvements', must have come from there so I wouldn't have seen it.

Does look like a legume as to which? I am as clueless as Pete.

It looks very like swainsona formosa, but with a shrubby stem. Maybe something related like clianthus?

@pete , do you remember anything about the mother plant apart from it being 7 ft tall- was it a shrub, evergreen, relaxed habit, twiner...?

Or perhaps it was too dark to tell when you "acquired" the seeds...?

Well I had been in the pub before hand, so my memory isn't that great.

I do remember that there was 2 of them, side by side,
Come to that they seem to have planted two of every thing for some reason :roflol:

Apart from that it was a large dense shrub, but at the same time not heavily leafy.
But no I saw so many plants that day that interested me I don't remember.

Of course I realise now I should have taken a picture. :frown:

I found this which might help refresh your memory, there are a few images:
Virtual Tour - Ventnor Botanic Garden

There might be more online about plant lists there.

I don't know what it is but Indigofera comes to mind, it is part of the legume family and similar leaves but not furry unless they is one with furry leaves :noidea:

I dont think I'm going to get a good ID until it gets bigger and possibly flowers.
Just wanted to know so as to work out hardiness and if it would survive a winter in the ground.
Spent the winter in a cold frame, so is reasonably hardy.
                              Oh, its deciduous.

So will have to grow it on in a pot and see how it goes.
