It's only the "ANTI Brigade" who say they don't work.
They certainly work for me, without killing any wildlife!
My garden is alive with different species of birds, frogs, one toad and one noisy hedgehog, she has been here for a number of years and has about two litters every year.
The secret is only to spread them very sparingly, but regularly, not massive heaps!
It also pays to check every night at dusk and catch the blighters as they emerge for their nightly feast!

    PS
The same type of handwringers from the misnamed RSPB, who deny that raptors, sparrowhawks and magpies have no impact on small bird populations, say that one should not use blue slugpellets!

    Hi everybody.
My first post in this forum I hope not the last.
I have recently retired and have transformed my very small garden into growing a mixture of veg and flowers (mainly in pots)
I hear the country as a whole has been invaded by slugs and snails this season and have been reading about several chemical and natural solutions to this problem.
I have to report I have not witnossed a single snail or slug in my garden..
I think the answer has to be the pond I have with its resident population of frogs. They can be found both in the pond and in recesses around a low stone wall. They have been breeding there for several years now and I seem to have a happy balance with the pond, its frogs and fish, the bird table and our cat.
Maybe, just maybe, frogs are trully our friends.

    Hello Capney.
I love frogs and toads, just wish I had them in my garden. Got any pics of your garden per chance? I am a newbie to gardening so I am stealing ideas from everyone on this forum :)

In theory hens and ducks are a great help defeating snails and slugs, unfortunately they mess up everything else in the garden, ah well. It´s a difficult life. But I agree with one of the post above, there is no one solution, better to keep your eyes open and be active in many small ways all the time. It becomes a routine, like weeding.

Makka, Total crap and certainly not representative of my self. I dont belong to or support the RSPB or RSPCA, enjoy shooting, ratting, suport hunting and am a qulified pestcontroler aside from running my groundsmaintance business.

I am farr from anti chemical or organic, however I dont find slug pellets efective. The majority of propertys i work on are riverside wooded/ shaded or on one or valleyside therfore pellets seem to mould before they even kill slugs.

Although I haven`t done anything particularly seasonal re putting down slug pellets-I use them regularly, and correctly according to instructions and I have still lost 8 plants in the last 3 days.

As I was wandering round looking at the carnage one was sat right at the top of the tallest stem of my big cordyline-BOLD AS PIGGING BRASS., and underneath the cordyline are the tell tale blue pellets-I am not kidding, unless that thing does the long jump and the two step they haven`t worked.

As I mentioned before in the garden centre about the woman blah-de-blah......well, there was a group of us stood gawping at the same shelf all talking about what works. That hasn`t happened to me before so am inclined to agree about this yr being a bad `un.

Alien hybrid mutant snails in my garden and SAS slugs up the stairs.

1 kilogram of butter (about 2 lbs)
    25 grams of salt
    5 grams of black pepper
    150 grams of garlic
35 grams of shallot or scallions
    90 grams of parsley

and loads of crusty bread :)

Lets eat the buggas outta the garden

Lol, I remember sowing dill this spring, and as soon as it popped up I scattered some pllets, one morning I walk to the veg patch, the dill was gone, the pellets were gone. and there was a dead slug right on the spot. It did eat the pellets, but it ate my dill first
Grrrrr. There are failures, always. I amuse my hubby walking through the garden with a bucket of soapy water and a big stick. The stick is actually only for moving the nettles aside, but the slugs don´t know that. I also stick snail shels at the top of the tomatoes and beans canes. That is for show. So they know what destiny awaits them.
