I use slug pellets but sparingly when plants are vulnerable. We have loads of frogs. I try to hide them away in the areas that the slugs come from.

I don`t know where mine are coming from. What I thought was a fab inheritance ( a load of old cobbles and york stone), has turned out to be a major city with a complex infrastructure for these things.

Anyway, my little girl told me quite seriously this afternoon that I shouldn`t be trying to kill them-they are "one of gods creatures" .

    Like Hitler then!

I have just remembered I posted a short video on utube a few days ago. The link is below.
I have some close up pictures if anybody really requests them.
Amonst the mass of green by the bird table is a dustbin with potatoes growing and at this time looking really good.
I constructed a raised section for the veg with short rows of potatoes
Carrots, parsnips. radish, lettuce, and red onions. Not forgetting a few strawberry plants.
Im sure they are overcrowded but even so, all appears very healthy
    at this time.
You may spot the pond in the video and the low stone wall which seems to be home for the frogs.
One problem I have had is the radish have bolted on both seedings so far. Maybe they require a bit more space.
What is not shown on the video is the runner beans planted on the narrow strip behind the garage. This faces south but the plants do not seem to be as healthy as I reckon they should be. I have one bean about 3 inches and a few micro beans. plenty of blossom so I am hoping for the best.
Sorry for ranting on abit. I tend to do that a lot once a get started.
Enjoy the 360 on my small garden

Just so you know: slugs can swim! I found one and chucked it into a bucket of water that was lying around (well, you've got to have a bit of variety in your methods of disposal!), and a few minutes later it was climbing up the side! Gaah!

I have only used them once this year (after losing dozens of seedlings) and so sparingly I used about 20 tiny pellets around the whole garden - worked though! I do pick up any carcasses each morning before they get eaten. I don't like to use them and I am paranoid as I have a dog but I was collecting hundreds of slugs and this certainly helped. I am noticing quite a bit of damage again so I will probably do it once more this year. - I like to think this is quite responsible but others may disagree.....

Oh yes. I kill snails throwing them in soapy water. I thought I wd try non soapy water, so I could then turn everything in the compost. I had maybe 30 snails in this bucked and I left it in a corner of the kitchen garden with a tile on top just in case. When I turned the tile a couple of hours later they were all sticking under it.

I wish I could have a few ducks or hens, then the snails would all go into their menu.

Its not even approaching funny-I was out today after reading the earlier thread about it and thought I had found one (blinking slug paranoia), after I prodded it with a cane a few times I realised it was a blinking pebble. Its getting bad now!

I found a dirty great fat slug carcass today. Summats worked!
