I think it's time this was brought forward so we can hear from the new folk this year why they have joined GC.

    OK - my turn!

I found GC using a search engine and joined to get the answer to a specific query - with some trepidation. I'd joined an unrelated forum (for ex-pats mainly) and found it full of big ego types who had very public rows - in fact any discussion turned into a slanging match, it seemed. And the thread I started about food was promptly hijacked by a few people who clearly thought they ought to tell me that I was totally stupid to do what I was doing, and that I ought to do things their way... They were most huffy when I suggested that I was entitled to do things how I wanted! A friend who joined the forum had exactly the same experience - and the moderators seemed to be as bad as the members!

So it came as a huge surprise to be warmly welcomed, to get generous help, to find that discussions are almost always civilised and don't descend into exchanges of ignorant insults - and even to find that I can occasionally contribute myself!

I've made great friends, learnt a lot, and enjoyed myself immensely. But then, gardeners are well-known for helping each other and sharing ideas, surpluses and skills. Great people! I am humbly pleased to have been accepted as member!

    My case rests, m'lud!!!

I started off on another forum - but it used to get hijacked. This is just one of many quotes I could have used from there - just in the last few days:-

'You, on the other hand should remove the broom handle from your backside and give people like us a rest.

Oh dear, she's off again.......vulgar, loud-mouthed, insulting and WRONG.'

I am sure there will people that recognise not only the forum but the characters involved! :D

I give all credit to Nathan for an excellent format in every way - which naturally attracts people. And people attract people. I think the fact that it is moderated is a key element. The other forum was not.

I either followed a link or via Google, (the memory's going, that's my excuse) I wanted to find names for some of my roses for which I have either lost the labels or they never had meaningful ones.
Enjoying it so far, some fun games, good company. I'm able to help some and be helped by others.

Looks like the usual pattern is that we are looking for info or help on something or other, then stay because we like it!

Not a bad set-up really - congrats on keeping it like this, Nathan! :D
