Reminds me of a story my Great Aunt Mabel used to tell of when she worked as a maid 'in service' in a large wealthy household around the early 1900's.
A young gentleman who was 'courting' the daughter of this rather well to do family had been invited to Sunday tea.
As young Mabel was attending to the table she noticed the young gentleman visitor momentarily staring at his plate having observed a slug nestled on a lettuce leaf in the salad.
Apparently, desperate to make and good impression and not wishing to cause offence to his hosts, he simply wrapped the slug up in the lettuce leaf and ate it without comment.
By heck, they were made of stern stuff back in those days!

Perhaps he didn`t like lettuce.

We were having a bite to eat in Wimpeys once. We saw half the slug fall from our mates salad into his coffee, but none of us had the heart to tell him till he had finished his meal & drank his coffee. Didn't want to put him off.

Reminds me of a time I was out drinking with my best mate and a group of people we know, and this one lad with us fell asleep at a table, and someone (we weren't with) was sick in their drink and put it on the table next to his. The lad we know woke up, and picked up the cup of sick and drank it... and didn't even notice because he was that drunk, we didn't bother telling him
