I bought a 70L bag of Wickes MPC today. (£4.07, although it is £12 for 4 bags)
To be honest is wasn't too bad, certainly better than the previous one.
I had earlier bought a 60L bag of Sure-Gro MPC from a local Farm Shop for £3. (£7.50 for 3 bags) When I opened it I found it to be very dark and loamy in texture.
I was a bit concerned that it might congeal once potted up and I would end up with a solid growing medium, so decided to combine the 2 bags to get loamy compost that was aerated. The blend looks quite good.
It had better be - the Tomatoes are now sitting in it.
The reason for only buying one bag of each was purely I wasn't sure about either - no damaged bags available.
I think I'll be back for a batch of each to continue the blending - lots of pots to fill.

I won't know what the Westland stuff is like until I can get someone to take the bags out of my car and stack them in the garden.

      Further Update:-

I have just opened one of the Westland bags and it looks, and feels, very good. These were the ones I bought in Wickes at £13 for 4 x 75 litres. :dbgrtmb:

      Can you

Can you post a pic of what it looks like as I have some new money off vouchers for Wickes (and haven't used any for yonks because of their rubbish compost this year).

I'll take a photo later - when it gets light enough. It was black, soft and no bits in it at all. I used half a bag in one of the pots someone has just given us so got a good look at it.

my local tesco had a few 55 litre bags of compost a few days ago

was in a rush so never had a close look, but if memory serves me right, I think they are westland multi purpose with John Innes ..... under £3 a bag

The three bags of Westland I bought a month ago were pale brown with little wood splinters in it - looked exactly the same as the picture below posted by Loofah earlier in the thread ,and one posted by Merle . I wonder if Westland also make the Wickes compost ? I'll stick with B n Q this year lovely stuff :blue thumb:

      Just taken these photos.

The first picture is more the way it looks than the second, which I opened up the shutter for.

Have Wickes changed their compost back to the old formula as was reported in a post on this thread some time ago?

Wickes have sent £5 off (no minimum spend) vouchers as a farewell gift to those who were in the now defunct myWickes loyalty card scheme, so I had a look around the other day to see what we can spend our vouchers on (2 accounts so £10 of free stuff) and noticed the signs stating it was unsuitable for seed sowing have been removed.

Anybody bought some recently? If not I might email Wickes CS. It still doesn't include seed sowing amongst use on their website http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/200246..._source=RatingsAndReviews&utm_content=Default

        or

Maybe they would slit a bag for you (and other shoppers) to check?

My local garden centre has a slit-bag [on display] for each of their compost types.

So does my local Farmshop/Nursery. Good practice IMO - if it looks the business, customers will buy it,
