Not a great photo but I've seen this spindle. Interestingly the lane it's on is called spindle lane so there must have been lots more at one time. I only saw this one but the hedges have been cut within an inch of their life! It makes sense though as this area of Nottingham was where William Lee the inventor of the stocking frame was from. Spindle wood would have been needed to make all the spindles and wheels in the hosiery business. I can't believe I've never noticed it before, it's such a striking seed head at this time of year. mrousavy-3651528898003490304.jpg

Slugs in the park enjoying the food, there were at least 5-6 of these and more other fungi beside them.

@On the Levels , having a Border Collie helps, we cover a lot of miles on our daily walks.

I pulled up a bucket full of fungi from our main front lawn today before mowing. Haven't the faintest what they were, mainly three different types, and didn't even think of taking photos.

I'm always surprised at how perfect many of the fungi are in your pix @Scroggin - especially those fly agarics! Isn't it funny how so many people are frightened of them though? They're really beautiful. Certainly more have been appearing again here - a 2nd flush.
                              That's a lovely one too @pete.
I kept forgetting to take my camera to get a pic of the garden near me that always has a lovely selection, and when I eventually remembered, they'd been out with the mower
I passed the house last week and there were more growing, so I might try and remember the camera, and get a pic....

Hi @fairygirl, it's always a bonus to find an untouched Fly Agaric, most are ' munched' quite soon. It's interesting how quickly most of the fungi come and go, the exceptions are most of the bracket types which tend to last longer.
