I was reading complaining posts on my local Facebook about the local park.
Part of it has been turned into, large new cafe, big adventure playground, football pitches and cricket ground, the other half is designated a nature area.
People were moaning about the grass not being cut and dead trees being left where they fall or just left as piles of logs .
I must say I I think they have let the brambles over take the place in parts but I really don't think you average suburban dwellers has a clue what real nature looks like.
I'm a bit the opposite and even get annoyed when conversationist keep stepping in and wanting to manage certain areas for their own ends.

They missed those @Logan, you'll have to tell them so that they can come and mow them down :heehee:

Cafes, play areas etc are important but so are wild areas. Personally I don't think there's enough education about it.
Around here there's a lot of countryside so the people are used to it.

It's good you have a lot of country side Michael, but round here country side is large fields of crops which we need, but any woodland gets taken for housing, and it's all disappearing fast..

That's a shame @pete, We have lots of different habitats around here moorland on the mountains, woods and marshes in the valleys and both rocky and sandy shores, as well and lots of small fields with hedgerows. However I don't know how much of it the locals know about or even notice ... sad really .

:heehee: Those are in a completely different area where it's a nature reserve. In the same place found this cow slip that was planted a few years ago.

One of my favourite natives which I have never even seen IRL, so thanks for sharing your lovely photo of it, @strongylodon! :)

Another very rare one here in Dorset, Lesser Butterfly Orchid, under a foot high and just 8 plants.
Prefers damp boggy areas unlike the above Greater Butterfly which is found on dry grassy areas. butter 1.JPG
