Bargain Wilko's Half Price Sale

Thanks for posting that back on June 11th because I immediately recognised those packs in my local Wilkos today and stocked up on BF&B and Growmore @ 50p/pkt (they're 750g packs, but half the price of Poundland). That 'Hortus' brand BF&B, bonemeal and growmore only appeared today (you have to go every day to check out the bargains).

The odd thing is all the garden hand tools have disappeared from display.

 

Green 24 x cell tray inserts 3 packs, reduced to 20p. N.B. These are not as UV stable as the black trays and should be stored overwinter in bin bags and then regarded as single use (but ideal for growing for selling @ less than 7p/tray).

Packs of 24 x 60mm Fibre pots, reduced to 20p.

6 x 4m Garden netting (the stretchy green stuff with diamond shaped mesh) reduced to 20p.

Pea & Bean netting, reduced to 20p. I didn't buy any of that stuff because despite only being 20p it's not reusable (like bean canes or pea sticks), not biodegradable and the whole messy tangle gets wasted at end of season.

Also on my receipt are 3 packs of F1 sweetcorn seeds, normally £1.60 each but only £1.60 for three packets after both the 50% off then 3 for 2 have been applied getting them down to 53p each which is not far off Wyevale seed sale prices. Anyway, £1.60 for 120 F1 sweetcorn seeds (use by 2016) seems pretty good to me.

The 3 for 2 no longer works in store, only the 50% off reduction comes off. All seeds on the website appear to have been pulled from sale. EDIT They're back at 50% but no longer 3 for 2.

 

Bamboo and reed screening have both been removed from the website and when that happens it normally means the mark down pricing is up the the stores. I saw the bamboo screening (sturdier than reed?) was only £5/roll and think the reed was the same sort of reduction.

 

All gardening stuff (apart from wheelbarrows and most hand tools) now either 50 or 75% off and loads of items 10/20/30p. For example:

14m Soaker hoses £2.50 (OOS online)
Packs 50 small plant labels 10p
Giant thermometers £1
JI seed compost £1.10
Cell tray inserts 30p
Kneeling pads 30p
Etc., etc.

Prices are being reduced further every 2 or 3 days so there could be loads of bargains over the next week or so as they now seem desperate to get it off the shelves (& probably also clear warehouse space).

 

Yes, I've been to get more seed compost (£1.10), seeds (40p), labels (10p) and seed envelopes (20p) for friends. Nice. Will be back in tomorrow to check out the latest offers.

 

I shop a lot at Wilko's. I have found its great at the end of the season. Same as Asda this year selling growbags £1 each bargain. Person in front of me had 20 bags and I had 10, they will do nicely next year

 

I had some amazing bargains from Wilkos. One of the good things about this Wilkos thread is looking back over previous years to get an idea of when stuff gets reduced and by how much. I always call in and check out their Weymouth store on the way to my hols in Dorset. Once did that and found all their seeds only 1p/packet and some even came through at -1p!

There's been better bargains than that, like when Asda were selling 20L bags of potting compost for only 30p!

On several occasions I've got stuff from our store that's been reduced and priced up for say £1 and then at the till it goes through at 10p, so back in the shop I go

 

It can also happen the other way, and prices at the tills come through than those on the shelves, so look out for warning signs like 2 labels with different prices and don't simply make a test purchase but get all you need in your basket assuming it's the lower price as they will (after challenging) let you have it for that and then remove the lower price label. It can also be important to get what you want instore, as although the lower price may be applicable online, there may be no stock available for online orders.

 

Dibbers reduced to £1 (were £5)
pH/moisture meters now £4
Giant thermometers now 75p
Giant 18th & 21st badges now 5p
20% off padlocks and lots of other stuff

Homebrew now only 20% off (was 25% off)
The plastic ('strawberry') netting that was 40p a couple of weeks ago has been restocked and the price increased to £3
Miracle Gro that was £3 is now £4.25



I did Weymouth Wilkos on the way to our hols last week, another one on the way back home and re-checked my local Wilkos for further reductions whilst in town today. Some stores have bigger reductions than others.

 

can i just ask.. the ph/moisture thing is that what tests the type of soil you have? forgive my ignorance i am new to it all if so i think i may pop in

 

It's this http://www.wilko.com/compost composters/wilko-soil-moisture-tester/invt/0261281 except it's a moisture, pH and light meter, all for £1! The pH reading will indicate whether soil is acid, alkaline, neutral, etc.

The only problem is that mine doesn't work and is going back to Wilko. The light meter is useless (I compared it against and expensive one) and the moisture meter reads 'moist' when it's standing in a glass of water!

Ha, not tested mine yet, but it was only £1! (can I have a prize for beating Scrungee?). Must do so. Also the 15m eco hose is down to £2.50 at my local branch and I got a border fork for £5.
