They have gotten a lot better admittedly, however I would like to bet that you could get equal light or more for half the wattage. A couple of weeks ago, I installed a 12w LED in my PIR lanter at the front door, and before doing so I tested the bulb in the light fitting at the top of the stairs - suffice to say it was like turning on a floodlight, and was chucking the same amount of light out that I would have expected from a 150w incandescent.

At the front doorstep, it gives a nice white, daylight like light and is bright enough to cast light onto the pavement which is handy for people walking along the street as there are no street lights on our side of the road at all, yet it doesn't dazzle anyone as you would expect a similarly bright light to do close to roadside

Personally I hate LED lighting, its very harsh I find, even dazzling.
Some bloke about ten houses away from me has installed them on the back wall of his extension, they light up the whole neighbourhood, and he leaves them on all night, presumably because they are cheap to run.

But apart from that, getting back to the power cuts, I agree government of the past have dragged their feet regarding building new power stations.
But the windmill bandwagon has flourished.

It was once said, when the price of oil was sky high, that the price of natural gas was linked to it, I see the price of oil is quite low now in comparision, but gas prices have not dropped.

At first glance, this article doesn't seem related to this thread, but when you consider who controls a considerable amount of our incoming energy supplies.....??

Convince me that we shouldn't be throwing up a good handful of nuclear power stations so we can at least function as a nation if the gas stops?

And that is the problem of course - we seem incapable of building anything ourselves, or can't do so without some sort of 'investment' from elsewhere.

Lets look on the bright side, we can all pretend it's 1973 again and share a bath to save energy :)

I've got a bit of a problem with that Zigs, I haven't got a bath, only a shower. :heehee:

Talking of gas......our gas supplier on the island put their price up this summer, why? Because we haven't been using it! So in effect we're paying for nothing!
