I think it was Harry that joined the Army and had to come home early because the media blabbed. William took the right and most sensible path and joined the RAF and is serving in Air Sea Rescue at RAF Valley in Anglesey.

Oh shame ! on all you folks who are discarding British history that most other countries in the world would "die" for. Not only is it something to be proud of but it is a tremendous income for UK in manyvisible and invisible ways.

Criticize the press - and the UK press certainly merit being criticized - by all means but think about the "royalty" of other countries before being "blind" to the great culture that still remains in UK .

The saying "be careful what you wish for" should be borne in mind before you trash what UK still has compared to many other parts of the world ...... Maybe some folk would prefer to have Berlusconi or ???????

Cheers !

Wow it's your birthday on a special Bank Holiday Victoria! :dbgrtmb: I'll be celebrating that on my paid for day off :dbgrtmb:

Good luck to the young couple, but I won't be pressing the TV 'on' button or reading any newspapers. I'll be spending it in the company of people I actually know.

Well,I'm looking forward to the big day as it is going to be lovely to sit and watch through the powers of the TV a future King get married to hopefully a future Queen as I think he will make a better job of it as his father ever will but even if Charles does become the next King of England I shall enjoy watching History in the making as both Charles and William are crowned King.I shall also look forward to hearing about any Prince and Princesses being born and shall enjoy every minute of it as we are so lucky to be possibly the only country in the Empire that does Royalty the best and to see these events happen in mine and yours lifetime. We are only here once so we should enjoy it and let them get on with their own lives as best as they can :)

Actually, I believe that both families are paying for this wedding - at the couple's request. I think Wills has more of a modern head than his parents did. He's very aware of the need for less of the pomp and more of the romance!

I don`t think any of us are "discarding " British history, we are doing what no other country on this planet are allowed to do , we are offering friendly, civilised, criticism, which is our right. We are the ONLY people allowed to find fault with our Royal Family, the rest of you, mind your own business.:loll::loll::loll::rofl::dbgrtmb: William and Kate, enjoy your future life together.:thumb::thumb:

I for one have not and never will attack the British history - I'm proud of it. As a nation we fought many enemies and many wars [for good and bad], built an empire and left a lasting and beneficial mark on the world. What language is used so globally? How many countries have carried on with a democratic voting system on us handing over independence [forced or otherwise!] to them. Joining the RAF underlined my sense of history and recognition of what the English, Scots, Irish and Welsh have stood up for, sometimes against impossible odds, in the past.
But, Varallo, don't mistake the fripperies of two. very lovely, people getting married as History, it isn't. The Royal family is a great asset to us but they are not the focal point of our history now. Our great, good and bad leaders have been Kings and Queens but they lost their ability to rule absolute a long time ago. Our Politicians have been the Leaders of the country for a long time. The history now is being made by our political leaders [for good or bad!] and us as a nation - because we have the vote. We've made terrible mistakes as a country in the past up to the present day but we've learnt what's right and what's wrong and we've proved that by fighting for that principle. We're not perfect as a nation and we never will be but and it's a BIG but I look at other nations and I thank my Gods that I'm British and as Daitheplant says we can do other things than touch our forelock as they pass by - but that doesn't prevent us from being, at very levels, strangely and quirkily fond of the Royal Family and the fact we've got something unique. Let William and Kate get wed and may they live very happily ever after - but don't think, Varallo, that they or the wedding are British History exemplified - people make history not Royal Families.

:loll:Hmm! Well if we're thinking about patriotism. Many countries have legacies to be proud of. Greeks, without them there would be no Europe. Iranians, no mathematics. The list is endless. My point being, we're all part of the human race, the culture is unimportant. As regards Bill being a regular guy. When he's made redundant owing to the G'ments cutbacks, I guess I'll see him down the local pub waiting on tables, so that he can make ends meet.:heehee: maybe he'll be working for a company that is allowed to not recognise Bank Holidays.:th_scifD36: I'm not being bitter and I hope they make a go of it ( better chance than his Dad:heehee:) Just watch out for the "nasties" the G'ment slip in while the media are fixating on the wedding.:WINK1: Shiney, I guess I won't be in the "mutual admiration" society.:loll::loll:

I had no idea that the bank holiday is going to be unpaid for some. Shocking!
