As most contracts of employment say that you get x amount holidays plus 8 customary and bank holidays it makes no difference if the government declares another day a bank holiday. All you're entitled to are the 8 days. Some bosses are giving the extra day for nothing. A lot of people don't realise that those bosses are being generous. O.K. it is not a lot but they don't have to do it. :)

Cajary, don't be so modest, of course you're in the "mutual admiration society" - with your views you couldn't be anything else. I agree with you about us all being part of the human race but we haven't been on this planet, relatively speaking, as an organised species long enough to be able to agree to make the pieces of the jigsaw fit so we are all one "picture". Every nation waves it's own flag [and weapons] and jostles to be a recognised and important part of the world. I agree with you about the Greeks, the Iranian [Persians long ago], etc but where are they now? Greece is a financially broken country with not an exactly democratic state, the Iranians are run by a extremist government using religion to justify it's actions with questionable nuclear ambitions. The rise and fall of nations, including ours, is cyclic. China is a example of a civilisation that made massive contributions to the world in nearly every field a thousand years ago and onwards, it declined to become a near non-entity that was nearly conquered by a much smaller nation [Japan]. Now it's on the upward rise again. I don't think we will really be as "One" in the human race. We make pacts, treaties and promises to defend other nations against attack but when it comes down to, unless it's vitally important to our own economy - like oil, we stand on the side lines, hold huge futile and impotent meetings in NATO and the UN and people die!
Okay, William is a privileged guy. He'll never want for anything and he's got "status" that you and I will never have, but I don't think he's abusing it. He didn't have to join the RAF and become a Air Sea Rescue Helicopter pilot. He's doing a job that is dangerous to him and his crew and saving lives to boot! Going out to rescue people out sea when they need you i.e. in storms, heavy winds and rains takes guts - so Royal person, privileged person or no, he's got my respect. Besides, he'd probably make a lousy waiter!!

Hmm! I don't need to be patronised and I don't need lessons in history.:WINK1:
Shiney, you have no idea about the real world that us peasants live in:D
I'll leave this thread now. At times, some threads crop up that show me how little you guys know about the real world.:WINK1: I'll stick to the gardening, not that I know much about that.:D

    Cajary, you're probably right. :WINK1:

My father was one of 15 people living in a two bedroom house in the East End of London but I was lucky that he was able to move to a one bedroom flat in Hackney (a posher slum) with my mother, my sister and me.
At the age of 13 I was cleaning cars after school and working as a barrow boy at the weekends. I then worked 60-70 hours a week for more than 40 years.

But that's all in the past now and have been retired for the last 10 years on my ill-gotten gains :heehee: :D

Fortunately the real world doesn't intrude on my consciousness nowadays. :WINK1: :D

Come back to the thread, Carjary. You've don't sound like the kind of person who will let disagreement with
other people's views make them walk away!! History is written by the victors and if I, for one, gave you the impression of being patronising then I apologize from the heart. I came, like a lot of people on the forum, came from a poor family - and I'm proud of it. I haven't got any grounds for feeling superior to anyone and in fact time and time again on this Forum other people have shown how more realistic, down to earth, knowledgeable, and experienced than I ever could ever hope to be, and I mean that!
Shiney has a point about paid Bank Holidays from a employer's point of view because the cost can be extremely
high. If you're a small firm and running on a low cash flow it can be disastrous. I don't think any firm can legally dock you a days holiday from your annual entitlement for the Bank Holiday.
