    SBK's a selective weedkiller.Can be used on broad leaf weeds and brambles,available pretty much anywhere that sells gardening products.Don't worry about nearby plants,just make fresh cuts into the live tissue of the willow and apply with a small paintbrush.
    Repeat process every week or so.

      Ct, over the years I've found that mixing SBK with oil works better because it clings to the wood - especially if it rains just after you've put it on. :dbgrtmb:

      Having said that. Willows are a b.... We had a willow cut down 35 years ago by a tree surgeon. We wanted to keep 10ft of the main trunk standing to support a plant ladder so they drilled holes and filled with killer. They did say that the trunk may sprout some stems for a couple of years but I should just cut them off. Ten years later, after six more visits from the tree surgeon (free of charge) he decided that the tree didn't want to die and offered the cut it down and stump grind it - also free of charge. We decided it had earned its freedom and we left it to its own devices. It survived another 17 years before we had to have it removed with a number of trees around it.

        AN AMUSING STORY ABOUT WILLOW
        Mum needed a close prop, to raise her washing line in the garden so she went into a hedgerow near our house and selected a tall 'pole' with a fork at the top, cut it with a saw and put it under her line which was over the lawn. the following spring she decided to move the 'prop' to a better part of the line and found it had rooted and was sprouting branches all the way up its length. after this we always said she had the ability to make a dead branch grow. but that's willow for you!

          :ouch1: Great story:heehee: ,i didnt how bad it was till we did the chop and i realise that if i dont start the chemical death process soon that i will have aprox 50 more come spring!
          i think im going to burn the chopped off trunk just to be safe now ive heard your story and chemo blitz the stump for 6 month :blue thumb:

          Built a couple of willow 'igloos' for customer's kids.
          Just crop bundles of year old branches,trim them into three feet long cuttings and stick them in the ground.
          Great place for a crafty cigarette. :blue thumb:
