I think if you're buying a Laptop with W10 already installed you should be okay.....but it's those "upgrading:scratch:" with a previous Window OS already on their machines that appear to be running into troubles. I noticed that Chrome did a really lengthy download today and I'm just wondering if that was them catching up with W10.:heehee:

I remember buying a computer I had made for me way back in 97, cost a cool £1800 and had it until 2006 but was very upgraded over the years.
Now I have one that is a lot less money but still light years ahead of some on the market.

      How times change

There is a major update on it's way, supposedly for downloading next Thursday. It's mostly for business but there are some alterations that will affect our personal computers. @ARMANDII, alterations to the photography section have been mentioned, perhaps it will solve your issues. :)

Just downloaded and re-installed Windows 10 for a second attempt at bringing myself into the present. Since my last experience of this I have discovered that Microsoft have been adding in little 'extras' to Windows 8 over the months to help it with the 'snooping' that is being criticised so heavily in 10 AND no doubt all attempts to cancel this snooping in 10 will be gradually changed back by Microsoft unknown to us over the coming months in sneaky upgrades :)
Meaning???? I might just decide to concede like my friend Woo @wiseowl and sign in to enjoy the ride :)

I was told a few days ago that it makes no difference whether you're using W7/8 or 10 Microsoft had/have the ability to invade our privacy.

After a 5 hour remote takeover by my son today, he has fine tuned everything for me. At present I have no issues with W10 but I still have to try and load my Wi-Fi printer and load photographs from my cameras. We'll see what happens with those. :)

Now getting confusing when using Mrs Srungee's Win 8 laptop!

Thinking Win 10 is a bit more like Android.

Scrungee, Microsoft did announce that W10 would be used across all types of equipment, laptops, phones etc. which is probably why it seems like Android.....not that I know anything about that. :)

I've been having fun with my cameras today. It's usual for me to upload pictures from disk but the disks from my cameras both loaded in different ways, into different places and for the life of me I can't work out why. Another question for my son.

The major update forW10 is supposed to be with us tomorrow. My son (in America) got it last week and says it took a minimum of half an hour to download.

Hi All. Up to now I have seen no visual difference with any W10 updates perhaps this next one will be different. When I installed W10 I went into Settings...Privacy and turned everything, everything, off. Started in General and then on to Location and so on all the way to bottom of page. Some things like Cameras were all greyed out, I suppose because I do not have a camera installed. I think the only one left ON was the “Feedback & Diagnostics” tab.

Turning OFF everything makes absolutely no difference at all to the way W10 works at least for me as mostly I just use it for surfing the net like. Doing this has at least stopped to some extent the “snooping” that people are worried about.

I did not want Microsoft snooping but to be honest I think it goes on all the time in different forms. Cookies are not malicious but is a form of snooping. What makes me scratch my head is sometimes I go onto a web site and it says “Hello Peter” or “Hello Peter in Swindon!!!!!! I have not even logged in but I suppose it is down to cookies, perhaps someone can explain how they do this?? This used to happen back in W7 days so not new in W10.

Partially cookies, and partially OPEN address I suspect. The cookies are probably providing the 'Peter' part, and IP address providing location. My location often shows as Hayes, however I do not live in Hayes - my broadband connects to a daisy chain of cabinets which all terminate at one point (called a UBR) which happens to be in Hayes.

I am not overly worried by collection of this sort of data - mostly as I am not doing anything wrong (I think!) - as long as I have the really private stuff protected (bank account etc) I am happy
