    .

And if so does W7 PC see files on flashdrive? And if so can they be copied.? And if so is it that the copied files are not in a usable format?

Plus have you tried using the same flashdrive to copy from the W7 PC to the W10 laptop?

@ARMANDII , if you trust what's on your usb stick, can't you simply go into you AV settings and exclude it from scans until you've transferred what's required as a temporary workaround?

Do you have some security software on your flashdrive (usb stick)?

I may be wrong, but the first thing I do with that stuff on new usb sticks is delete it as it can be a right
      PITA.

Windows 10 recent lengthy Feature updates.....

Other half is in the process of trying to fully install this but there's one part that has failed four times after retries. Any ideas to get round this please?

We can't be sure which one, but it failed on installing. There doesn't seem to be any information telling us which one it is but this comes up.....- Error OXc 0000005.

Four failed but this is the only one outstanding, possibly the biggest.

Common failure, and one I encountered when I did this update on @silu's laptop - tends to stop the wi-fi from working, which is then self defeating as you cannot download the required file. The easiest way around it is to plug the machine directly into a router/modem using an ethernet cable, thus bypassing the wifi, then continue with the update - - all will come good. Seems to be mostly (but not exclusively) machines that have Realtek wifi adaptors fitted.

                  Interesting comment FC.....

It did but it was my machine that suffered, I had to give up on here last evening.

We can't find the cable :doh:for the hub (fibre) so we'll try it again tomorrow, should it fail again we'll buy another cable. Pete's laptop is a six year old Acer and that probably doesn't help the situation.

Thanks FC, I'll let you know the outcome.

The next shot is to add an external wifi dongle (less than a tenner on Amazon) and go from there. I am on leave the next two days, so remote assistance is available if you need it :dbgrtmb:

                      Thanks again. :)

Does the ethernet cable plug into the USB port on the hub please. There's also four GIG Ethernet sockets on the hub.

No, not a USB port - there should be a square-ish socket somewhere nearby with the ethernet logo adjacent:

                        ethernet.png

Any one of the sockets on the hub should work just fine
