Okay FC, I've taken (literally) the best way to solve this. :) I suspect anyone of the four yellow ports?

Yes - number 1 would be the logical one, but in reality it makes no difference; one end in there, the other in the computer and wait for it to establish the network, then retry the update.

Thanks@silu, yes we've solved the problem but.....

.....typical! Pete's computer was still trying to install last night @Fat Controller so I shut it down when I toddled off to bed. This morning it resumed installing while Pete went off to buy a cable for it, an hour after his return it had fully installed and is now up and running. That's a tenner down the drain, well sort of, it'll be handy for future issues. :)

Thanks again for directing me/us in the right direction.

Ah, good old Sod's law coming into play. There were loads of internet issues last night and into this morning (I think a few DNS servers must have decided to go off to the pub or something :heehee:), whether that was part of your problem is anyone's guess.

Ethernet cable is handy to have in case of further trouble though - keep it in the laptop bag, so you don't lose it.

I've just tried to download images from my Camera onto my W7 Desktop only to find I can't do that either:dunno::wallbanging::gaah: I'll have to contact Bullguard to see what is going on. I've tried switching off the Anti Virus but that hasn't worked.:wallbanging:

Remember those days, waiting for the valves to warm up on the B/W tv.
Sometimes took two or three minutes.

Nowadays it can take anything up to ten minutes for your PC to get itself sorted before starting.

But I guess you cant stand in the way of progress.

If I had a tenner for the number of times I have been tapping away at a circuit board with the handle of screwdriver looking for which joint has gone bad....... well, I would be quite well off!

I joined the rif raf as an Apprentice Air Radar Fitter just as everything was being changed from valves etc to modular circuit boards and digital instrunment. The trouble was that a good percentage of other aircraft I was trained on such as the Lightning aircraft and Early Warning aircraft did have modern equipment but others I was called onto still had valves etc so had to go back into" "history" as i went along!!:dunno::doh::scratch::snorky:
