It's "progress". Money comes into it but there comes a time when old tech must be replaced or the old stuff holds the new back.
PC speed and performance are derived from a combination of hardware and software but wont necessarily affect internet speed

So is my ZX Spectrum a bit too slow?

That's good because our maximum possible speed is 3MB - unless I want to pay £10 a month extra for fibre which they say will increase my download speed to just over 4MB.

I think Windows 10 is ganging up on me.
I completely lost my Panasonic Photofun Studio programme I use to upload photos, even the desktop icon disappeared.

I'm "very organised," I keep all the drivers for all my programmes which came with various bits of kit in a CD rack above my "work station," in our box bedroom. There's CD Roms in there for stuff long consigned to the bin. But not the one for which I was looking.
As a last resort after hunting high and low for it, I found the box in which my Lumix camera was delivered at the back of a top shelf, it was in there. So I re-installed it. Problem solved.

On the subject of speed connection. We're with Virgin cable. The connection cable must be the best part of thirty years old. Current speed is over 78.

We don't have cable in our area, so we're just on ordinary adsl. That's good enough for us as we're not interested in streaming, downloading films or any of that type of thing.

The problem for older houses is that the ASDL terminal link is copper so the new fibre link would do no good as the copper link would stay the same unless you paid out to have it converted. Virgin use coaxial cables, and not fibre optic which has copper in it , and that means they "could" get up to 300mbs.:coffee::snorky:

@ARMANDII they're always trying to get people to have higher, then the contracts costs more than a new person joining and in my opinion..old cutomers should get it cheaper  but no way:sad:

We currently pay over £50 for their basic TV package, free phone calls at weekends (never ever use the phone), rubbish broadband, an old TiVo box and hub. The other week we gave them notice to leave. 3 days later received a phone call from them offered us £29pm deal for 100mbps broadband, new hub, free evening and weekend calls and new V6 box. Much better !
