i have setup win7 as a dual boot Steve....no problems mate.

done the same for some customers and not had any problems . i can only asume that the ones that did have problems may of had a problem with their boot sector. just a thought.

Windows 7 is best.Because it has better features then the other. And Windows 7 is a vast improvement from Vista as it takes up much less ram and has other optimizations such as fast booting times. I recommend Windows 7, and if you really don't want vista and don't want to wait for the final version of Windows 7, you can download a copy of the Release Candidate from the Microsoft website for free and use it up till June of 2010. I am working with the Release Candidate right now and so far I have absolutely no complaints, considering Im a heavy computer use with advanced software.

Well after all that, my new computer crashed. Windows 7 will not start up and I am asked for the System Disc which loads up files and then offers me options which have no meaning for me. I did try to start it up in Automatic Repair mode but it said it could not repair Windows. So, back on the old machine with Vista until I can find a way of getting the machine back to the shop. (6 weeks plus of no driving!).

It's nice to know that they (MS) seem to have got things right at last, after that bum job, Vista. It's like Ubuntu, they seem to have made a giant leap forward with v9.10 or could it be the processor that makes the difference.

I have two computers, an Acer Aspire Laptop, 64bit Turion, which I know that Adobe do not seem interested in doing software for 64bit. Trying to install Adobe reader or flash brings up "Wrong architecture", other than that it works well although it's three years old.

The second one is an Acer Aspire X3810, Pentium Core2 Duo E5200, this works very well, Adobe Reader etc. install OK and even BBC iPlayer Desktop works fine. The X3810 is one of the new "space saver" desktop's, it has 9 USB ports so you don't have to mess about with USB hub's. Both computers are running Ubuntu v9.10, I am looking forward to v10.04 in April to see what improvements they make.

Just out of interest, I've just started using Linux Mint, the latest version is based on and compatible with Ubuntu 9.10. It looks a lot more like Windoze than Karmic coala. Anyone else tried it ?? I'd be interested to hear other users experiences.

Took the Computer back and guess what? It started up perfectly for them, no asking for System Disc or Backup, zilch. None of the reasons they suggested for the crash were sensible nor accurate. Brought it home and set it up. Afer the first Update of Windows, it had to do a ChkDisk before Windows would run again. So far had no more trouble (Bows to Hubris). Very odd though.
