Then you shouldn't enter competitions Longk. :) I don't see it as winning or losing, it's about what I and the camera can achieve and improving on it where possible.

      That's why I don't!!
We stuck at the motorsport as we were competitive on a budget of about 30 to 40% of our competitors.
I don't mind losing at Scrabble as long as I've scored well (say 290/300 in a two player game). Any less than that and I sulk!

Nope - deffo the other way round!

It's a little like the driver who had to spend £25k on an illegal engine to beat us with our £5k (legal) engine - so what! He was also spending £300 per shock absorber instead of or £110. I knew how to make them work better. His wins were hollow - ours were earned.

Two very good photo's, the first is lovely and has had very minimal post processing, probably just a levels correction, it's beautifully soft with nice clear catch lights in their eyes. A worthy winner!

The second is also a good shot that has had minimal sharpening, but I think this 'tog knows photoshop well and has used selective sharpening, ie selected only the bird and then sharpened as its surrounds are much softer and to my mind nicer. The sharpening needed backing off a little as it's too strong (for my taste), but as the user is aware of and employs selective sharpening techniques, I suspect he/she is working on an uncalibrated monitor and it probably looks quite good to his/her view. I've lost count of the amount of times I have seen photos prepared on uncalibarted gear.

            Steve...:)
