    Hi NatalieB
I just feel so sad for her - I don't have an allotment so I don't know any of the rules etc but I have heard there is a great community spirit and if people could maybe help then what a lovely thing to do.

Its a disgrace, and to be honest it just reinforces something I've believed for a while now. Our society is geared up to favour anyone who is of 'earning' age and ability. Kids are alienated, older people are cast on the scrap heap as soon as they retire. What's worse is that absolute lack of respect for older folks in general. They work hard all their lives, many of them gave up their youths to fight on our behalf (and not just the front line soldiers, who still needed someone to make their ammo and raise their kids while they were away fighting), and then what? They get a pittance to live on, and if they need someone to look after them in their final years they are forced to sell their homes to pay for it.

This old lady may have been breaking the rules, but who cares? Lets say I wanted an allotment on her site, and the council told me I could have one in a few weeks after they'd blitzed some old dear's flower garden, I would be mortified and I'd withdraw my application. It would be tantamount to stealing from her.

well im quite appalled at this doing that to an elderly lady, im just in process of getting a part allotment and im having a seating area with flowers etc mind the other half is going to be vegetables, but after her having that site all them years its teribble for that lady and the council taking such harsh treatment, whats a few flowers at least shes got it lovely, its not neglected like the one im taking over
