What I find interesting about this discussion is one which has been slightly alluded to. How we differentiate between different kinds of animals with regard to how much pain or suffering is the allowable limit. If all animals are in fact equal then we commit a Lilliputian holocaust every time we de-worm our pets. Or murder one for every squirt of fly spray we release into a room.

Just saying,..........stones and glasshouses etc etc. She has questions she must ask herself, but a grip must be got, so to speak.

Interesting, Lollipop. I once had a long discussion with a bloke who believed that all life was sacred and should be preserved whenever possible. It subsequently transpired that his compassion for all Earth's creatures did not extend to headlice :).

Said on the news last night that the pics of her putting puss in the bin are now going all round the world!!!!!:skp: getting a bit out of hand really.

    So agree with this!!

andrewh What she did is no more cruel than, say, battery farmed chicken... I wonder how many of the mob* have thought about their own behaviour towards animals...?

It'll all be forgotten, when the next overpaid footballer tries to get an injunction against his sordid love life being published...and the gutter press clamour about freedom of the press.

Being a reader of the Mail, I like to think I have the intelligence to ignore the dross and read the sensible news items. So, how cruel is this woaman compared to the North Wales farmer who wants to set up a super dairy? This is a guy who not only wants to increase his dairy herd to 1000 cows, but also wants to have them virtually permanently linked up to the milking machine.:old:

Dai, farming has always had its cruel side, and always will as long as we keep animals for food and increase the population.

How did we get from putting a cat in a dustbin and hoping it dies or gets crushed, to dairy farming:scratch:

Personally I hate all animal exploitation but I'm still going to drink milk.
As to the Daily Mail, whats the problem, its a news paper and it needs to sell copies, if it dont it dies and puts people out of work.
If its gutter press there are a lot of people in the gutter:D

I dont read any papers BTW.

As I don't read tabloids I was unaware there were death threats until I read it here. I presume this has bee done through social neworks and cannot be condoned.

:rotfl: Looking at the stars! The gutter is underrated.

I think the cat bin lady is a sad biddy who needs help. I don't think a mob should turn up at her door and do her in - although that might be a slightly cheaper solution to the problem than the twenty-four hour police guard we're all currently paying for. :D

However, what people didn't like was that this was a pet animal which was being cute and friendly to a stranger who petted it and then chucked in a bin. There is something very unpleasant about people who take pleasure in doing this kind of thing. I don't think you have to be a paid up member of the Vegan Society to feel that way.

Sorry Dai, I dont think I was patronising just saying the thread has certainly wandered a bit.

But I know that happens all the time, been guilty of it myself in the past.

I dont read papers as such, but I do see papers, and read headlines, so I know what they are all about, selling papers.

So if you write what people dont want to read you dont sell any, its boring.
Sad but thats what life is these days.
Luckily we are still allowed not to read them if we dont want to.

I still cant see where farm animals come into this as its a totally different issue.

I believe Facebook has taken down the page that published the death threats.

Anyway, 'the mob' will always need something or someone to go after. A few months ago it was baying for the blood of the man formerly known as Jon Venables. Then it was the England football team. In the future it'll be someone else.

All of which will be aided by, milked, cajoled and guided along by the tabloids.

I've been too close to people who do.

Not compassion actually but when you can see the lice moving in and around someone's baseball cap and scalp it's hard to feel compassion to them - never mind the lice.

    :(
My worry is that we have enough 'wierd' humanoids out there who will copy this act, having seen it on U tube and elsewhere.
You know how it is when something like this is made public, there is always copy cat crime. (no pun intended)
I know I'd have something to say to that woman if it was my cat that she had done this to or if I had seen her doing this.
Like Martin says, I guess she is most probably mentally challanged.

The cat bin lady now has a spoof account on Twitter. Here are a couple of the entries:-

"Lovely coffee at Brenda's, but as soon as she left the room I couldn't help tipping it down the back of her telly. Regretting it already."

"In Tescos now. I've put some frozen sausages in with the cereals. They'll probably go off. I draw no pleasure from this."

"Just kicked the head off next door's gnome. For a joke. Who's laughing now though? Not me. Not me."
