Americans and English. As someone once said, two countries divided by a common language.

Whatever you do, never mention to an american that the community you lived in as a child had a Knocker Up! :snorky:

My brother went to visit a relation in the good ole US of A back in the early '80's and excused himself, after the evening meal, by saying he was just going outside for a f a g. The looks said it all :hate-shocked: :hate-shocked: :hate-shocked:

If you're working, doing something with a sheet of paper and a pencil, ask an American for the loan of a rubber and you'll get some funny looks!

Geting this thread back on topic, my latest woodworking project. The six doors under the workbench. I'll be so happy when the weather improves enough for me to get back out into the garden! Apologies for the poor picture quality.

That looks great Sandy, its a project i will be doing shortly i will copy your design for the doors, I started building a summer house a few years ago its still not finished :yikes: im like that start something get it 70% finished then move onto something else :wallbanging: anyhow its now become workshop, if i made something nice like that down the center it would make a nice bench and could be used as a table when where entertaining.

You've made a grand job of the doors Sandy. :dbgrtmb: Will you coat them or leave them natural?

@Sheal I'll be coating them with UV resistant varnish. That wont be for a while though. I realised yesterday that I need to make four more doors, as well as some shelving, to complete the job.

I need to do a couple of wordworking jobs out in my garden.

                            1) a lid for my composter
                            2) a new perch and walkway for the catio.

I thought I would buy a big piece of plywood and use that for everything. How would I make it weather resistant? Would shed/fence paint do the job? I will need to paint the sheds anyway at some point.

                            Thanks.

                            G.

If you can get it, roofing ply.
I don't go a bundle on these "soak in" in treatments, I prefer one that forms a permanent seal particularly on horizontal surfaces, like the Dulux Woodsheen I used on my tea-house.
You could also cover it in roofing felt, but not the cheap stuff sold by the sheds, it doesn't last.

Neighbours behind us have it on their kids' play house, it's about two years old and it's already showing signs of weather wear.

First off, there is no such thing as a plywood that is suitable for permanent outdoor usage. That even includes marine plywood.

Use instead T&G suitably treated. I use a traditional mix that is ecological and can be "home made." I've mentioned this several times on here. If its interesting, run a search. Otherwise, use a proprietary treatment.
