Good morning Loli and thank you:smile:

My scientific son said dad I 've put some food colouring in the small pond last night to make the water blue,:lunapic 130165696578242 5:so I will have to empty to day and refill it so I put the end of the small hose pipe in the pond and proceeded to suck on the other end and got a mouth full and it hasn't worked :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Good afternoon I have just dug over a bed by the pond so that the frost can break it up a bit:smile:

Should be broken down very soon if the recent frosts are anything to go by (brr!)

It's all evolving like a treat, woo. I do enjoy your updates - very inspirational :blue thumb:

Have you already planned what you will be planting in the bed you have just dug over? And, will it be left now until Spring?

Good evening " M " to be totally honest I was going to grow some winter veg in it,but I just have an inbuilt feeling that we are going to have a bad winter( I just hope I am wrong) especially over the next 3/4 weeks, but that's just me,so I am going to leave it until the Spring and fill it with a variety of perennials that the Bees and butterflies will love;)

How interesting that you say that woo - I recall when I was a very young girl - an old gentleman telling me to watch the rosehips and seedheads: it there were a lot of them, we would be in for a long, hard winter because nature fills the larder for the wildlife. I even recall thinking he was a bit cuckoo  Some years later, a country lass said something similar and we had an almighty cold snap. Well, we've certainly had a lot of rosehips, seedheads and even blackberries still flowering and providing nectar ... so, yes, I'm inclined to agree with you regarding the weather.

Ah, now that will make a very productive Spring bed, even if it does mean you have to forego the winter veg

Hi "M " just a few I grew up with on my travels;)

                            When leaves fall late,
                            Winter will be severe.

                            Much rain in October,
                            Much wind in December.

                            Flowers blooming late Autumn,
A sure sign of a bad Winter coming

The nearer the New Moon to Christmas Day, the harder the Winter. This year its on the 23rd

corn husks are thick and tight...
                            apple skins are tough...
                            birds migrate early...
                            squirrels tails are very bushy...
                            berries and nuts are plentiful...
bees build their nests high in the trees.

                              Wow! :love30: Thank you!!!

Ok, just a thunk I'll share with any grand children which may come my way:

                              Oak before Ash, we're in for a splash;
Ash before Oak, we're in for a soak.
                              But that wretch, "Global Warming"
                              May change vintage warnings,
                              So join up with GC
And we'll chart our own history!

                              :heehee:

Ok, cheap and cheerful and not very prophetic, barely poetic, but who's to say my own observations are less than our ancestors :heehee:
