Woos Garden

My suggestion was to chisel out a depression but I think you may be right LyndaG - I know there are drill bits that cut a perfect disc. Think it may need a rather large one though?

How wide is it woo?

Then I'm still inclined to go the chisel route. I also think that would give the hollow/depression a more "natural" appearance compared to a uniform drilled out hole.
I was walking through the woods with Ozzy this morning and there were several old, rotted stumps where bulbs had naturalised themselves (think they are going to be bluebells but I'll have to wait and see). The hollows are rugged (and weather worn) but nature had certainly created drama with it. That's why I'm being stubborn with chisel

Blimey, that is an orchard! (Read that once on an estate agent website: if a garden has more than 4 fruit trees they describe it in their literature as possessing "a small orchard". Are they on dwarf rooting stock? I'd quite like a couple of fruit trees in my garden which is why I'm asking (but my garden is only 68' x 18' so I would need to be really choosey over which to get).

I think a few random holes with a large drill bit to start with then I'll make the it easier to chisel out the rest

 

Everything is coming together Woo. Those Dog Woods were a great buy - what a bargain! Like Loli, I reckon drill some big holes with a large drill bit so the holes are fairly close together then go for it with a chisel. Should look fab all planted up.
