I hope you get on with them @wiseowl, I have had two pairs over the last ten years and got used to them fairly quickly. I do have glass lenses as I found that even with a special coating, the plastic ones still scratched.

Good morning @strongylodon and thank you my friend,I used to have glass lenses but they were so thick and heavy they nearly cut my beak off and I couldn't take off:heehee: no seriously this is the second day and its good,if it wasn't thick fog, bad light and damp I would take the camera out to see if my glasses made any difference in my focusing ,but the weather forecast seems to be the same for the next week at least, enjoy your day:smile:

[IMG]I like my varifocals because they make me look really intelligent,:snorky:.... and (as my friend Woo says) I can see where I'm going and read all the labels in Tesco.
I think I'm a bit more fortunate than Shiney, because my left eye was badly damaged when I flew through a windscreen at an alarming rate of knots back in the late 80`s, and despite a splinter of glass lodged inside my eyeball for a few years afterwards, can still now see ok.

I find too found that plastic lens scratched within weeks of me getting them as I'm not gentle with specs and tend to forget to take care when laying them aide for a moment or two. I've had to resort to Titanium frames and KODAK high index glass lenses which don't scratch easily.:coffee:

Many years ago I tried varifocals and they completely threw my sense of balance feeling permanently 'seasick'. Since then I've had bifocals and like Shiney had the reading part of the lens adjusted to the height I'm comfortable with. However, I take them off when walking down steps because the dividing bifocal line is right in my eye line. I also have a separate pair of specs with mid distance lenses for working on my computer. In fact I've had the frames for many years, not only the most comfortable I've ever had but are also the cheapest I've ever bought.

I had the anti-glare coating on my last lenses (glass) and it started to wear off one lens within a few months, creating a fog which actually weakened that eye. I've recently changed frames and lenses, no anti-glare coating this time, which didn't make a lot of difference anyway. I have Titanium frames this time which are a lot lighter in weight.

For my works safety glasses , I was once prescribed varifocals . This was for distance and reading. I tried them for two days , the experience could best be described as having 10 pints of Stella :rolleyespink: Just stick to my standard prescription lenses now , plastic with anti scratch/glare coating , no problems. What we do need is an anti grease coating , why does it always look like I could fry an egg on my lens after a couple of days wear !

I have worn varifocals for years, the first pair took about a week for me to be comfortable, after that any other pairs just took about a day
As an aside my Grandfather was an ophthalmic surgeon and optician, one of his experiments with willing family volunteers, Was to fit a prism lens to glasses that inverted the sight, after around five days the wearer was looking at the world normally, and when the glasses were taken off the world was upside down, taking the brain a further week to perceive the world as normal again. :-)

I have been waring Varifocals for years now and love them as short mid and long distance are all out of whack for me so I love them.! I have the reactor tint, anti glare, anti reflection and anti scratch on my plastic lenses and I get on fine with them... So so glad you are getting on with them too @wiseowl Woo they made me feel a lot more confident when out too not having to change glasses all the time too..

I've had varifocals a few times, the ones with the graduations in length focus.
the prolem was that you have to look through the bottom of the lenses to read or watch TV.
If you're slumped in a chair watching TV you have to hold your head up, to be able to see through them, as in a normal situation in that position you'd be looking through the top part of the lens.
As is the case with most people my eyes have changed, so now I don't need glasses for driving (confirmed by my opticia), or playing golf.
I now have two pairs, of normal glasses one for any prolonged reading and one for watching TV.

I always find that I'm indecisive at the opticians, when asked. "Tell me which is best."
