The elderly chap who lived next door to us when we first moved here did, too. I don't hear it so much these days - maybe it's dying out.

I get (probably unreasonably) irritated by people who use archaic forms of verbs without knowing the rules... because I was educated using Shakespeare, and the King James version of the Bible, it grates when it's wrong. There are rules, just as there are for any language. And it's only "you" (singular) and sometimes "he, she, it" which ever change. Eg:

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"
            "Thou shalt not steal"
"He leadeth me beside the still waters"
"Thou art the King of Glory"

I agree. Thanks for shewing us your thoughts. :)

It takes me back to the evacuation of Tristan Da Cunha in 1961 (British South Atlantic Islands) when the volcano erupted (I worked for the Union Castle shipping line that eventually took the islanders to Cape Town). I became quite friendly with one of the families and some of their speech was interesting as they never used the word "was" but always used the word "were" in all instances. I think "were" is still used in parts of England where "was" would be used in most of the country.

Snuck, as the past tense of sneak; and dove, as the past tense of dive.

Unfortunately more and more words have snuck :heehee: into the dictionary and neither 'snuck' nor 'dove' are considered incorrect any more although they are mostly used in America. They are both listed as possible past tense versions.
