I'm with all the 'like' haters. I used to feel my canines elongating when I heard politicians prefixing every response with 'Look......'

Oh and I've just thought of another one - 'structure' when applied to gardening.

Front and centre. We have to double down and re-double our efforts to stop this worthless piffle.

Reversing the word order in a question. Why?

On a friendly forum such as GC I think it matters not a jot if words are misspelt - except - when we have students doing a survey for their dissertation.

They are not allowed to do so without first applying for permission.

We understand that their surveys are first vetted by their tutors so when we see misspellings or bad grammar it is both the student and the tutor that are at fault and it is likely not to bode well for a lot of degree qualifications.

Although I thought I had a good command of the language I was still corrected a number of times by my editor!

Back to the topic:- I always used to dislike, during conversation, people who continuously said "You know what I mean?". My usual response was "no". It quite often caused a pause in the conversation because they didn't know what I was saying no to as they didn't realise they were always asking that question. I don't hear that phrase often, nowadays.

We hear a lot about virtue signalling these days but what amuses me is Yorkshire signalling i.e. inserting vernacular words like ‘owt’ or ‘summat’ into a slice of otherwise standard text.

Go West from here and it’s all mi’ ducks, go East and it’s old boys. Rutland is in a linguistic limbo.
