"T'was ever thus", is a strange expression in itself, sounds like Shakespeare lingo to me

Speaking of Shakespeare, did you know the couplet:

"Golden lads and girls all must,
    As chimney-sweepers, come to dust"

refers to Dandelions? Golden lads are the flowers, and chimney sweepers are the dandelion clocks.

Much debated theory, that one! I like it, but a lot of Shakespeareans argue that chimney sweeping brushes looked nothing like dandelion clocks back in the day of the Bard :dunno:

Reach out? You think you've got problems! Someone recently gifted me with all due respect. It always precedes a rude or patronising comment. I kept my cool because I am a person due all respect.
'Gifted' annoys me too but I'm annoyed. I'm resisting reaching out and that's enough to be getting on with for now.

"Tirelessly". Used constantly, they are tirelessly searching, we have been tirelessly working. It's a lie too, everyone gets tired.

                  A money-saving word if you're in a pharmacy, though.
The generic stuff in retail tends to be what you actually need rather than the bells and whistles you pay extra for.
I agree it would be annoying if misused

Two words I have not heard in the past week, and for that I am very grateful, are to medal and to podium.

Whatever shop I go into these days the assistant at the till tells me to "Have a nice day" with a forced grin. It gets on my nerves, especially after being in a few shops one after another. I usually give them a frown and walk away

They've probably been told to say it and they're probably so fed up with repeating it to every customer that it sounds mechanical and false.

Do they say it in the American style with the inflection of their voice rising on the word 'Day'?
