In Ireland, the standard greeting seems to be "Hello, how are you?" - to which the correct answer appears to be "Hello, how are you?". Though if you're feeling very bold, you can say "I'm grand, thanks, and you?"

I suppose it's no more odd than "How d'you do?", which was current when I were a lass...

How does ‘and of’ enhance the phrase in and of itself? In itself is good enough for me.

Also "hence why". One or the other does the job.

Round here it's "You all right?" or just "All right?", but you don't need to reply.

Second word was always "off" where I lived in the dim and distant past.

That was common with us too but a slight pause between the two words and with an interrogative tone to the voice. :heehee:

I'm not sure whether this word has been mentioned before but I cringe every time I hear it. Waiting staff in restaurants on delivery of my meal. Enjoy!

Not an irritation so much as a fascination - have just learned a new French word - accidentogène - to describe a stretch of road where lots of accidents occur, usually from bad driving. Think photogenic and you get the idea. Brilliant.
