I have a similar problem which is getting worse as I become older - when I speak Welsh I can only seem to remember the English words for things, and when I speak English I can only seem to remember the Welsh words. It's a good job most people I talk to are bilingual so they know what I'm saying

Mrs Shiney's father had a small business in India and she went to school there and ended up getting used to English spoken the way they did there. They didn't switch on (or turn on) the lights. They opened them.

It was different for myself as, being brought up in London, it depended on which sort of lighting we spoke about. The street lighting where our school was had only gas lighting and they were 'lit up' by the gas lighter when he came round on his bicycle.

I just remember the knocker upper who came round the village to wake the colliers on early shift.
