Easier to just leave ful off. 6 spoons of sugar, 6 teaspoons of sugar etc.

 

Definitely spoonsful! I recall at primary school a teacher telling us that the plural of cupful was cupsful not the generally used cupfuls. My mum was amazed and insisted that the teacher was wrong

 

"A spoon ---- of sugar helps the medicine go down" doesn't really have the same ring to it , does it?

 

I spent most of my school days trying to tell the teachers they were wrong.

 

And it's not delightful either

 

Spoonsful or spoonfuls are equally correct. The former is a little more formal.

 

Pronouncing apparently as apperently. I think it sounds pretentious and condescending. I wish that presenter on Radio 4 would stop it!

 

An abrupt “Sorry we do not stock it”. What is that then. As I point to a shelf behind the counter.

 

In some parts of Yorkshire too, as in " 'As tha cut thi grass yet?"
