Most of the time Dendy it's a dream job...Today however was a nightmare..no pun intended..
I was working on our bosses recently aquired farm where his wife and young daughter were tending to their horses, I heard frantic shouts for help from the stables and so ran to see what the fuss was about..."Hold the horse for me while I look at his foot,it's bleeding"...Bleeding was an understatement!!! It was pumping all over the place. Eventually we called a Vet..unfortunately he didn't know where the farm was and so I drove my van to find him. On the drive back I was going so fast I lost him twice..well I did touch 90! [IMG]
Everything was fine once the vet worked his magic but we were covered in blood...and I missed lunch [IMG]
The good thing to come out of it is I can now walk up to a horse and touch it without me having the shakes. I have had a fear of them since I can remember..and they have even offered to give me a lesson on one.. [IMG] ....Touching is one thing...sitting up on one...NO CHANCE!! :D

What an experience Pal. Amazing what you can do in an emergency isn't it?

So you used to be afraid of horses? Well, you could have fooled me :D
as I see a knight on his horse for your avatar!!

Well, done anyway - you certainly lived up to the
'knight in shining armour' tradition! ;)

[IMG] Oh my goodness Pal.... Thank goodness you were there!!! I am sure if you hadn't it wouldn't be such a happy ending...!!!
;) I hope your boss remembers this..!!
I was around horses all through my childhood & into my teens.. Loved it, rode bare back most of the time when I could.... Great days...!! :D

 Rode my friends horse a year ago, first time since childhood... Oh how different it felt...!! :( Not how my memory was tellng me....!! I wasn't the happy relaxed rider I used to be... It has taken a while to feel relaxed again...

[IMG] If today's incident helped you conquer some of that fear Pal, then I think that is great..!!! [IMG] See.. You really are the Knight in Shining Armour!!!!

A distant memory is of being surrounded by the horses of the Cotswold Hunt at Batsford Estate and crying my eyes out. I was rescued by my dear Granny who punched a huntsman on his leg as he sat high above us! Perhaps that's the reason I'm not at all keen on them.
Today ,as I held on to the reins,I kept my back to the horse and after a while he was gently rubbing his head against my back. The bosses wife reckons I have 'a way' with them...As far 'away' as possible will do for me!

A lovely, poignant story, Pal, and I could "feel" your distress with the situation. You were definitely the Knight in Shining Armour, my friend. [IMG]

    Also, to quote jj ..

"So you used to be afraid of horses? Well, you could have fooled me
as I see a knight on his horse for your avatar!!!

    Ditto! [IMG]

    What a story, Pal!

I'm not comfortable around horses either (they have VERY hard heads and feet.....) so I can understand how you might feel about that - but in emergencies you do what you can, don't you?

Do you know what had caused the problem? Stood on glass, or burst a blood vessel, which I understand from reading Dick Francis books isn't uncommon? Horrible anyway!

Glass was found nearby after we washed away the pool of blood,it was from an old bottle probably off new tracks that are being created using builders rubble. The cut was very small but it was to a major artery just above the hoof and on the rear of it.

Some of that topiary seems to be following you around too! ;)

Looks a lot better in this sort of surrounding, though - perspective is a lot better!

And Friday saw me working on the windows here. The garden was designed by James Alexander-Sinclair only two years ago...I was there at the time and I can confirm he always keeps that hat of his firmly on !! :D
