I hacked out 16 panes of Georgian glass which was cracked and brittle and replaced them with 4mm float glass which is heat treated to recreate the 'Antique' look. It's safer for the kiddies there and has better insulation and reduced the road noise a lot. Back tomorrow to putty face glaze them....easy day :thumb:

    Nice work pal.

Whats the secret of getting the real hard old putty out without damadging the frames?

In the past Ive resorted to using a dremmel to carefully undercut it !!! wouldnt fancy doing an entire window.

Conservation Marley?.....Blimey,you can't even use Linseed oil putty or Silicone on some proterties! I understand a planning councillor saw the new glazing last evening and was impressed with the 'old' replacement panes.:D I won't tell if you don't;)

Paul,I'm afraid to say that I had trouble with just that problem yesterday....On some of the lower panes I had to break away the glass and pray it would take the putty with it. I ended with several rebates breaking off and I had to silicone them back ready for the putty work today. There are even parts I puttied where there was no timber rebates at all due to rot. Just to help strenghten the frame I applied a paintable caulk bead around the inside of each pane....and it looks a neater finish too:thumb:

Back onto the Cotswold Hills tomorrow and a job out in the wilds:D

Nice to see old woodwork being retained there are a hudge amount of traditional timber windows Ive seen ripped out around here, sadly most just slightly neglected.

Not sure who feeds them borrowers.. I suppose someone does as that is fresh spring water and wouldn't expect it have any 'life' in it at that stage. I have to tell you that they do like Ryvita though:D
