Would it be okay to plant solanum glasnevin with a dog?

Thank you for the advice, only thing I'm worried about is, it's going to go in between 2 large pots but I'd rather put this into the ground and up against the fence, so it won't get much sun until it makes it's way upwards, but once it's reached the trellis it'll get sun all day almost.

 

Mine was in a similar situation. It will definitely be better in the ground and will soon get going.
