Not the cleverest pc person in the world, and at 67years can be clased as an old fart, loved XP but as my pc was running a little slow, bought a new acer desktop
    with windows 7.
On buying diddent want to lose my lightscribe burner from my XP pc,and diddent want to add it to my new one,so linked the 2 together, and now have the best of both worlds, windows XP and 7.

Both now run very fast as also bought a 1.5 terrabyte stand alone hard drive
that stores my feature films/music/pictures ect.

So now love the new in windows 7,and the old on XP

Thank you, yes. I used it when installing older software, it managed to force most of my programs to work, for which I was grateful, but there are little bits hidden away within those programs which tend not to work and no amount of 'fiddling' will fix.

Fidgetsmum I really agree with you.

I am still struggling with Windows 7. I installed Office so that I can use
Outlook Express but cannot get on with the set-up of it.

My first computer was given me by my son when he decided to replace it
with a new one so I have spent 8 years with XP.

Not really happy about having to learn Windows 7 but que sera sera!

So now I'm gradually getting to grips with the computer, I have another challenge..........the new camera my other half bought me a couple of months ago. I've upgraded from a pocket camera to something that jumps through hoops, and outside the automatic setting I haven't got a clue and the manual's hopeless.

So here I go again, another learning curve! :)
