    Good afternoon everyone,

I've been in meetings since early this morning and have some reports to write so this will be brief.

    Steve, lovely picture :luv:

Kandy, it was for seven days. I don't plan ahead, except when entertaining, so look to see what is on offer and looks good :thumb:.

Chef's hat on :hehe: - Shoulder of lamb is always much cheaper but is very fatty. It is a tasty cut of lamb for roasting but you lose at least a half of it with fat and bone. I rarely buy a whole shoulder but it comes in half shouders quite often (if it doesn't, I ask them to cut it in half). I only like the blade half and not the knuckle half.
I much prefer rib of beef for roasting but it needs a bit of experience to pick a good piece (I may get around to showing some photos about it if I get a chance to take some). If you only like your beef well done then it is less important to get rib. Brisket is not a cut of beef for roasting but for pot-roasting or boiling (salt beef).
Nowadays, braising and casserole steak are the same thing. Stewing steak is a completely different cut and comes from the legs of the animal. Shin of Beef (or shank) comes from the front legs and Leg of Beef comes from the rear legs. These are much tastier cuts than braising but take a bit more preparation and a lot more cooking. I always use shin for stewing.
I never buy the leanest mince because it can be a bit dry and tough for long cooking. I buy cheaper, fattier mince and when I have cooked it down I then drain of most of the fat. It is more juicy and usually more tasty but take a bit more work.

Sorry, folk!!! I don't do masterclasses anymore :hehe: :rotfl:

Two weeks ago Sainsburys were selling leg of lamb at £6 per kilo, so I put some in the freezer. :gnthb:

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning everyone,

Thanks for the Chefs bit Shiney,I have a small book somewhere that has photos of all the animals we eat and it shows all the cuts of meat actually on the pictures so I know where the bits come from.:thumb:

I think you need to do some You Tube videos Shiney so people out there can learn to cook properly, though there are probably some already but I haven't looked yet:D

Helen,I am a reasonable cook but never do anything too fancy.:hehe:Coming from a large family my mum couldn't afford to let us kids l do too much cooking as she couldn't afford to let us burn the stuff and often she couldn't afford to buy the ingredients for me and my other three sisters to do the cookery lessons at school so I basicly learnt by trial and error when I got married for the first time in 1976:D
Most of the young mums in our village just live on ready meals and never even cook fresh vegetables and then the wealthy ones go out to restaurants a lot of the time so never have to cook then.:p
I have loads of ironing to do as well as I never got any done last week due to my foot problem and then yesterday went ovetr to the allotment so must get on and do some today:D

Penny, sounds like you have been busy in the garden and hope you get some good weather for it:thumb:

Steve love the photo of the micro hedgehog, seemslike they are the in pet at the moment:D

Woo and Rosa, hope you are both well and enjoying the Autumn colours that are out there:gnthb:

Peri, hope the wedding went off ok and that you had good weather and saw some nice birdlife:thumb:

Well I had better get on with my ironing or else Mr K will be scraming that he has run out of shirts for work.Have a good day everyone:luv:

    Morning Kandy and all.

Okay Rosa when I get time I'll pop the recipe up, mornings is my down time while I'm having my cuppa but only for an hour after which it's maddness & mayhem!:D

Steve forgiven me if I may sound dumb but the hedgehog doesn't look real to me.:o

Penny good to hear you're keep busy in your garden sweetie bet it's not long now before your white over & you have to resort to garden watching rather than doing.

Shiney totally agree with you honey pick the right meat & use the lot to make numerous recipes from it yummy, yum, yum!

Kandy I'm not a fancy cook either sweetie but I do like trying new things out but I do have my old favourites too in fact I still cook to this day a dish that I was taught in my first year at high school called 'Monday Pie'.It uses all the left overs from Sunday (or what you have in your cupboard) & it is like a big breakfast but with slices of potatoes laid over the top & covered with cheese.

We have been having it all our married life so much so that one of our sons was convinced it was a classic Yorkshire dish!:D

Went mad yesterday did all the ironing, cleaning & even managed to do an couple of hours over at the allotment although I'm really slow working over there now. More winter cabbage has gone in & we are almost ready for the Jap onions.

    Have a nice day guys.Hel.xxx.

    Good morning everyone,

Just a quickie :hehe: as I'm very busy today.

The sun is shining and looks as though it will be a good day although they forecast this wet stuff falling from the sky.

We shall have to start looking at what tender plants need putting under cover.

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning everyone,

Its going to be a nice day today.

Its supposed to start raining later on, and have high winds for a couple days, so i might hold off on going out with the mower and mulching the leaves, if the winds are going to be higher then normal, might as well wait.

Good morning Peri, Penny, rosa and everyone,

It's a bit damp out there and someone has forgotten to turn on the big light in the sky :). Oscar got up a short while ago, stuck his nose out of the greenhouse door and promptly went back to bed :hehe:

I still don't seem to be able to find enough time to do things . I was too busy when I was working so gave that up. I'm too busy in retirement so don't know what to try next but don't like the idea of the usual option following retirement. So I'll give that a miss :hehe:.

I'll see whether I have enough time to put up the photos of my walk in the forest on Sunday before I have to go out.

Hope you are all keeping well :gnthb:

    Have a great day :D

    Morning Rosa,Shiney and everyone,

Had a bad night last night, went to sleep then woke up and was still awake at three, then crashed out when Mr K got up at six and had another hour before Willow jumped on the bed and was then trying to get me to wake up with his paw on my face, just like Simons catk-l:D I have just spen tthe last hour trying to wake up despite having a nice mug of Earl Grey and some cereals:p

Everywhere is wet again so at least the garden cracks are going to start closing up.I think I have lost loads of seeds to them falling down these cracks:(Anyway,no allotmenteering this morning because of the wet ground and at least the wind has dropped a bit.:DI spent part of yesterday afternoon getting my summer T.shirts put away in one of the plastic storage boxes i bought cheap earlier this year{thanks Mr T}so it gives me more room in my wardrobes now,and they will come back out ready for next summer:p

Rosa, enjoy your morning out and hope you get your xmas lights ok and that you enjoy your lunch out:thumb:Try not to get too wet either:)

Shiney,I know how Oscar feels I feel like going back to bed at times:D I am always a busy little bee and feel guilty if I am not doing something.i think working in the factories for 34 years has done that, but glad that I am no longer stuck inside like that,it was worse than a prison sentance:p

I need to get some photos up on here but having back twinges again am loath to sit for too long at the computer:p

Peri, glad that all went well at the wedding and that you enjoyed yourselves up there:gnthb: Did you get to doing any bird spotting?Looking forward to hearing how it all went:luv:

Hel,hope you are not over doing things at the allotment:thumb:

Woo,nice to see you up and about and posting again:luv:

Right I had better get on.Hope you all have a great day:luv:

    Good morning everyone,

Not raining yet, but i just put the garbage out and it sure feels like it, infact they say rain here right up until next Tuesday.

I did however get 2 bags of leaves raked up yesturday, and the yard looks much better, the rest i will just mulch with the mower.

    Morning all.

Blinking machine running slow I think even it doesn't like these dark mornings either!

I have to agree with you Kathy I'm sure damp cold weather tends to aid joint/back pains more than normal roll on next summer!

Do hope you can all get some relief suffering from your lack of sleep & pains so not nice at all.

Kathy glad your time away was good honey.:thumb:Regarding the cakes they are always chocolate & no matter what sort of cakes I make for the day there has to be fairy cakes among them....I also made a lovely chocolate & orange cake the other day which I call my BIG CAKE!:hehe:

Shiney so agree with you regarding retirement I really don't know how Bob found time for work before & all our weekends away too......I think there's something wrong with people who get bored when they retire.

Kandy allotments has been a no go area these last few days because of the rain & the bitter wind ahsn't helped much either, I don't mind getting dirty but I draw the line at looking like something out of the Black Lagoon!:D

Good luck with them leaves Penny I bet you are fighting a loosing battle with them flying all over the place.

More ironing & maybe some cheese scones for Bob today after all I have to keep him sweet!:luv:

    Have a nice day guys.Hel.xxx.
