    Good morning Steve,Woo and everyone,

I expect you are both still in bed now that you have already been and posted on here. You will have to tell me your secret as to how you manage to keep awake until the early hours:ywn::snz::D

Steve, the compost looks fine for the carrots. The best thing to do is experiment with a few to see what happens and depending on the results will help you decide the best action for next year. Are you going to grow the carrots in the builders bags or somwhere else?:) I've been using those bags on my allotment for a number of years now as somewhere to store my compost and leaf mould ready for use,but I always think they are too deep just for ordinary vegetables so as yet although we have had a few good crops of self sown spuds out of a couple of ours. Please let us know how you get on:thmb:

Well we have had a heavy frost again this morning but the sun is coming up and it looks as if it will be a lovely day:D Did some grocery shopping in the morning and then in the afternoon drove with Mr Kandy over to our local rezzie and had an hours cycling all round it.It was a bit cold and breezy but it was a good workout, the only downside was getting splashed with mud a few times up the back of our coats:p

Hope you all have a great day in all that you do:)

Hi Woo and Kandy...just got up..quick coffee then out.

Kandy, I'm not sowing in the builders bags....just temp storing it in as such for a few weeks. As I see it this is no longer manure but compost so want to use it everywhere as a soil conditioner/improver but I have read in many places not to use manure where you intend to sow carrots due to forking issues. I wondered if I might get away with using this as its matured for 5 years or more.

    Many thanks!

    Steve...:)

Hi Steve,if the compost has been rotted for five years and is nice and crumbly as your photo shows then I don't think you will have a problem but you won't find out until you try.I never mind if my carrots fork as usually you end up with two carrots for the price of one which to me is a bonus.:)Your compost will make a fantastic soil conditioner but for me I am better off using it later on in the summer because if I put too much on the soil at this time of the year it covers any flower seedlings that are starting to germinate so use most of mine in the summer months as a mulch but for you with your new beds etc you probably won't have that problem.:)

Hope Anne is ok and that you both have a good day:thmb:

    Good morning everyone,

It is another fantastic morning here in Shineyland :thumb:. There is not a cloud in the sky and the brilliant sunshine is gradually melting the heavy frost.

I continued tidying up the edges of my lawns yesterday (still loads to go) and started marking the bee orchids that seem to have started showing their leaves earlier than normal  :).

Steve, the compost looks fine but I would be inclined to use it like a soil conditioner for the garden, including the carrots, and dig it in. Although the compost will feed the soil it will not have things that plants need and so should be mixed with the soil. The other problem that sometimes arises with covering the ground too deeply with compost is that if you have a long dry period (not that likely up your way) the surface will dry out, whilst keeping underneath more moist, and the birds will be throwing it all over the garden as they dig.

As you seem able to get hold of lots of things you may be able to get some left over sharp sand. This is another good thing to dig in for carrots. It helps hold the shape of the root as it grows but doesn't obstruct it like heavy soil will do.

There is nothing wrong with spreading and digging in compost this time of year but the best time, normally, is in the autumn/winter when you are digging over the vegetable area. Also, as Kandy says, compost makes a very good mulch in the summer time.

We are off to a couple of art shows today and then to see how Mrs shiney did with some of here glasswork that she put into a show. I should also be able to squeeze in a bit more tidying up in the garden. An hour at a time is the most I do if there is any bending involved. Then it is armchair, feet up, cup of tea and a book. :)

Jazmine, having a bath! We only got those on our birthday :hehe:. You can catch nasty diseases if you wash :old: :flag: :rotfl:. I remember when I was a kid seeing people coming out of the public baths and they never looked all that healthy :hehe:.

    Have a great day :D

    Morning friends :luv:
It's a lovely start to the day here. Shiney I enjoy my bath and it's even better if I get a cup of tea. I shout for one but mostly get ignored :hehe:

Enjoy making the most of the sunshine everyone. No family visiting this weekend as next weekend we will do it [Mothers Day] We are deciding what to do here- something nice in the way of a walk I think.

    Good morning everyone,

Once again we have clear skies and bright sunshine - with a touch of frost. It only went to -3 last night which is better than the -5 of the previous night. Spring is here :hehe:.

I mowed some of the grass yesterday and did a bit of tidying up in the garden. Don't know how much I'll get done today as I have a meeting this morning and am out to lunch with a friend later.

Kandy, apparently there was quite a bit of interest in Mrs shiney's work and she has been asked to put some into a a couple of charity sales - one of them is quite posh :). I hope the weather stays good for you and Mr Kandy to be able to get your outside work done. :thumb:

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning Woo and everyone,

Looks like we didn't have a frost last night and the sky clouds look mixed so will see what today brings.:D

Woo,hope the weather is good today for your eraly morning flight as it isn't good when the weather is rough and you get your wings damp and soggy:p

Shiney glad to hear that people were interested in Mrs Shiney's glass and hope they do well in the charity sales:).

Well yesterday was a bit of a slow day as we went to B&Q get a replacement bulb for one of our under kitchen cupboards and then ended up looking at flooring because I am trying to persuade Mr Kandy to have flooring in the hall instead of carpet as it will be better to keep clean, especially when Mr Kandy and the cats leave muddy footprints when it is wet on the carpet instead of taking off their shoes at the front door:mad: but can't decide whether the real wood is better to have than the cheap laminate sort as we have never looked into it before so don't really know much about it.Must have a Google me thinks:D

Also discovered a new PC World that has opened and also a Maplins so thta kept us quiet for an hour looking round those two shops, then went across to Wickes and got some new kitchen taps because the old ones are worn out so have got some with ceramic discs in them instead so they will last longer:p

Anyway,Mr Kandy is still in bed so don't know what is happening today so hope you all have a good one:)

    Good morning everyone,

Penny, it looks like you are having a heatwave! :hehe:

Woo, I hope you and yours are keeping well and the skies are clear for flying. :thumb:

Kandy, we always take our shoes off when coming indoors :thmb:. Even Mrs shiney's patients and our friends have to do that - you don't know what they may have stepped in :(. I'm sure Mr Kandy could do so as well but I'm not sure the cats would want to take their shoes off  :hehe:.
Be careful if you have a solid floor. We don't want you slipping over on it. :flag: :)

It is +3 already out there and looks like good day :gnthb:. I have another of my charity fundraising days today and we are doing it for the same charity that we open our garden for - Grove Cottage, a local place that runs things for mentally handicapped children to give respite for the parents. Update tomorrow. :)

    Have a great day :D

    Morning Shiney,

We always take our shoes off at the front door and put them on there but sometimes Mr Kandy forgets something and walks straight back into the house with his trainers on or like last weekend he was carrying in the shopping and never bothered to take them off first.:mad:I usually stand at the door and take the bags off of him but sometimes he can be so lazy and then brings mud in and I am the one that has to hoover it up:( We always wear slippers and take our shoes off in other peoples houses even when they say there is no need but most of the time at home I like to walk round bare foot although i can't do that so much now with my sugar problem. We will ask a friend in the village who lays thses floors for a living as i know he said years ago when we had the dog that dogs can slip over on them:pThanks for the advice though:luv:

Oh dear Mr Kandy has just told me the groundworkers have arrived at the plot next door ready to start their work on building the two houses next door to us so I had better make the most of the sunlight before it goes forever:mad:
