That's brilliant :gnthb:. You can find all sorts of uses for it.

Is that the bridge by Caldron Hill?

    Good morning everyone,

Well the groundworkers have been on site for three day, three of which they have been standing around scratching thier heads and digging out small trenches across the plot, only to find that the original builders had already put down the footings{footprint} of the four bed house that they were planning on building on the plot so all the trenches have now been filled in and the machinery removed off site for the time being while the millionaire builder decides what course of action he wants to take next as he is hoping to squash two houses onto a site that is only big enough for one house, but with all those deep footings it looks like he will have to some how smash his way through the cement and remove them before he can put in his own footings, which is going to cost time and money:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::hehe:

At least for the time being the house will stop shaking and I will be able to enjoy the sunlight in my kitchen and dining room:D before it is lost forever by the shadow of one of the houses:(

Hope you all have a good day and here are a couple of photos of what we have to live with at the moment:p{or did}:D and this is how close they have been working...

    Good morning Kandy and everyone,

Kandy, that is not a pleasant sight :(. What are the chances of you being able to sell your house to them for a tidy profit? They could then have more space to reorganise what they build.

I had a lovely big bonfire yesterday, got some of the edging sharpened up (didn't need the spirit level, Steve :)), marked another 28 bee orchids that have started showing (it takes a fair bit of time quartering the ground looking for them) and started clearing dead leaves from under the shrubs.

I also chased Monty out of the greenhouse where he and Oscar were both in the propagator (Oscar in his house) growling at each other. They were doing the cat thing of lying down at 90 degrees to each other appearing to ignore the other one and making that horrible moaning growl. They have obviously been fighting over recent weeks as both of them have had injuries.

Whilst we were away Monty had to spend a few days in hospital with injuries. Oscar has had a small piece taken out of the edge of his ear (a couple of weeks ago) and has a raw gash where his jaw meets his cheek. He doesn't seem to be the least bit bothere but Mrs shiney is upset. He sits quite happily in her lap letting her clean and treat the wound and purring loadly k-l.

I'm thinking of buying a water pistol to try and discourage Monty from going in the greenhouse. This is not just to stop any problems between them as Oscar seems quite able to cope but Monty isn't a gardener like Oscar is :). Oscar never disturbs any of the pots and trays of seedlings in the greenhouse and propagator and carefully steps over or around them :hehe:. Whereas Monty will tramp on anything . He has already been locked out of his own greenhouse.

It rained overbight here but has stopped now. If the lawn edges are still not too soggy I shall carry on sharpening them up.

    Have a great day :D

Yes Shiney, correct bridge :gnthb: (but known locally as Broughton Bridge), in the second photo below you can see my Village just up the hill behind the bridge.

    Downstream side

    View from upstream

    200yards upstream of the bridge

This van was washed 3 miles downstream from Cockermouth and went underneath 2 bridges. White Van man trying to find a new route..:hehe:

They have done an excellent clean up job, the river bank was strewn with tons of debris, once this van has been removed...there should be no real signs of the river ever flooding...except for the farmers fields strewn with boulders.

Weekend is just about upon us now, have a great one everybody!!

    Steve...:)

They certainly seem to have done a good job of clearing up. I've never seen the bridge from the side so didn't know what it looked like :).

    Good morning Shiney and everyone,

I'm up early this morning as I couldn't sleep and because my sciatica has kicked off again find it uncomfortable sleeping in a lumpy bed:o

We are just starting to do some decorating in the house so will have to catch up with you all as and when i can because as well as that work I really need to be down in the greenhouse sowing seeds plus sorting out the garden and allotment as best as I can and Mr Kandy does whatever he can when he gets in from work, although he is going to be busy with the painting etc:D

Shiney, sorry to hear about the fighting with Monty and Oscar,we have the same problem here I suspect as I went out in the garden the other week and there was large quantities of white cat fur on the grass so I think one of ours had been in a scarp with one of the local toms:pI think you might find that it is a territorial thing now we are at that time of the year when the toms hormones start to kick in.Perhaps Monty needs sorting out at the vets then it might calm him down a bit but then again our Willow has been done and at times he makes strange calls and chases poor Poppy all over the house and then they end up having a scrap:D

Hope you all have a great weekend in all that you do:)

    Good morning everyone,

It is quite bright out there this morning and not as cold as it has been. :thumb:

I hope to get some more gardening done today but have to do the cooking for Mrs shiney's students as she is running a head massage course today.

I'm going to make something that is fairly easy but very tasty - a veggie coucous. It's a traditional North African veggie stew served with couscous. Ingredients:- Onions, garlic, cinnamon sticks, grated fresh ginger, nutmeg, roasted and ground cummin and coriander seeds, harrissa, paprika, black pepper, bay leaves, tomato puree, carrots, turnips, potatoes, chick peas, courgettes and fresh coriander leaves. About 45 minutes from start to finish. :)

I see, on the net, that the Daily Mail is advertising that there is a free offer of £200 worth of plants and seeds in their paper today. Mrs shiney will be buying it today for the TV paper so we shall see what the offer is.

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning everybody!

Shiney that couscous sounds delicious! I think we should have a tasters section where we can all sample your cooking :)

A cold one here this morning - rained a little overnight but now fine - I should enthuse myself to rugging up warm and getting out in the garden but still have this chesty cold hanging on and it's not nice :( Had a lovely evening out with my 18 yr old last night at his rugby dinner for school - their annual awards night for the boys leaving that year, and was given a lovely big bunch of flowers for my doing all their refreshments this year. Nice to be thanked by the boys themselves :)

Think we might head to Hadlow College this afternoon - take the boys there for the lambing day - maybe have some lemsip and see how I feel.

Great pictures of the bridge Steve - must be nice to know you have access to it again and cutting off all the extra travel time you've had to put up with.

Kandy is all the machinery gone now, or do you have to sit and look at it until they decide what they are going to do with it? We've had people building walls etc. up the hill - but of course can't get any of the equipment/materials in their driveways - so have had piles of tar chippings he was using for his driveway, bricks, mini diggers etc. at a wider part of our one car wide road.....will be nice when it's over and we can clear our road of building materials!

Well everybody have a great day - and a wonderful wekeend! :)

    Good morning woo and everyone,

The sun is coming out and spring is here with birds singing and the plants looking happy not to be covered in frost. :thumb:

I see that the forum has gone one hour out again. :)

Mrs shiney is off to a quilting exhibition today somewhere in Cambridgeshire so I shall carry on working in the garden.

    Have great day :D
