    Good morning woo and everyone,

It's a bit nippy out there :( and I need to get going on tidying up.

The weeds certainly had a good time whilst we were away.

We need to clear the carport which we use as the entrance to the garden. At the moment it is full of plants (about 500) which will have to moved to one of the areas we have made for plant sale. There are already about 1,000 plants in the plant sale area and then hundreds more will have to come out of the greenhouse. All that is a bending job so Mrs shiney will have to do it. I'll put down more membrane for them to sit on.

In the middle of typing all this I decided to pop out and do some work. So I cleared up the hedge cuttings of the 100ft of hedge I cut yesterday morning :thumb: - I wasn't up to doing it after the cutting as I was knackered :hehe:.

After I have some breakfast my next job is pulling the tails of some mares :). Once a fortnight I go round the garden gently pulling the marestail up. I find it works better if I grip the plant at the base and pull directly upwards very gently. That way I generally get about six inches of root come up with it so it takes a bit longer before it shows again.

    Back to work :(

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning everyone,

We had some rain in the night and the garden loved it :thumb:.

I'm now into the 'timing' part of the open garden. I have to work out what jobs need doing now and what needs to be left to Friday afternoon. The cutting of the main lawns, and the edging of them, need to be left as late as possible. Friday night would be the best time but I am playing bridge then. Also, the tables and chairs get delivered on Friday so do we put them out on Friday? If we do, then I can't mow  and if it rains Friday night then they all get wet :(.

On Friday evening I have to pick up two hot water urns, one from the main village hall and one from the church hall. The main hall has two urns but they need one on Saturday as they have a wedding. The one from the church hall has to be returned Saturday night as they need it Sunday morning but I can pick up the second urn from the main hall Sunday morning as there is nothing on then.

So Saturday morning it will be:- erect over a dozen tables and put table clothes on, put out 50-60 chairs, set up all the raffle prizes on a table, get out dozens of boxes for people to take their plants away in, put out the police cones, pick up helpers from the station, explain to the helpers what their jobs are, provide four people with float money and get them to check it (entrance fees, raffle, plant sales, refreshments), put signs up outside, and a lot of other little jobs (don't forget to turn the urns on as they take ages to heat up). I think I had better have breakfast before going to bed :hehe:.

    My brain hurts :dh: :D

    have a great day :D

Shiney, I think what you are doing is fantastic! So sorry I can't join you this weekend, but if you're brave/foolhardy enough to do it all again in the future, I'll certainly be there. Good luck with everything. Hope the weather is kind. :gnthb:

Good morning to everyone else as well. It's a wet one here in Kent, which means (a) no watering required but (b) whoopie time for slugs and snails. I have got to the stage where I simply pick up plants which are growing in containers and babysit them in the conservatory for the night. It's a chore but a lot less trouble than slug pubs and all the rest. I have the worst problems with heliotropes - the wretched creatures can reduce them to a few slimy stumps overnight. Why on earth can't they take a shine to bindweed for a change!

    Thanks, Steve and Clare :gnthb:

Steve, Mrs shiney says hello :). We shall probably see you soon. I'll PM you when we have got the open days out of the way.

Clare, we do it each year so I hope you can make it next year :thumb:.

As Gardeners, we all need something that grows as fast as Japanese knotweed, that slugs/snails adore above all else. There's a task for the plant breeders!

Now if they can have it ready in lets say..a fortnight, I'll be very happy.

G'day to everyone else by the way, forgot to say it earlier, my apologies.

    Steve...:)

Good morning woo, Clare and everyone,

Woo, your sunrises are always heartwarming :)

We've had these depressing weather forecasts for the weekend and our open day. I've just managed to call up an hour by hour forecast for tomorrow and it shows only a 20% chance of rain during the day with the higher chance of 60% not starting until 5 p.m. Fingers crossed, everyone :thumb:

    Right, back to work :D

    Have a great day :D

Fingers extra crossed, Shiney. A 20% chance doesn't sound too bad. I think I'm right in saying that you're in the driest bit of England????
