Good morning everyone on this frosty but bright and sunny morning. :)

Natalie, cacciatore does also use wine and some herbs (and depends which part of Italy it is from whether they use marscapone) but Marengo usually has more wine and parsley - and sometimes brandy. Neither of them would normally used minced chicken. They are traditionally made with chicken portions that are browned off before being put into the casserole.

As with all dishes they have changed and evolved over the years and different chefs add, or remove, differnet ingredients. Marengo is the one that most of them have more ingredients in. Some add olives and most have mushrooms in.

Marengo was said to have been devised after the battle of Marengo but there is some evidence that it was popular before that. Cacciatore was a traditional dish that hunters made after the hunt and therefore had less ingredients. It probably had less wine in it because they would prefer to drink it :hehe: and they were unlikely to have brandy to put in it.

Both dishes are now also made with chicken breast but they are much better with the depth of flavour given by legs, thighs and wings. I normally buy a large chicken (or two) and cut it into pieces, remove the breast to be used for other dishes (usually stir fries) and the carcase for soup.

Sorry, I don't give cooking lessons any more :rotfl: :rotfl:

As the day looks as though it will be so nice I may go out for a walk with Mrs shiney and my camera :thumb: before getting on with paperwork that I have been pushing to one side :(.

    Have a great day :D

LOL Shiney - no not MINCED CHICKEN!!!! haha - No I do used portions browned off in the skillet first :) Great explanation as to the difference of the two - even at home recipes change over the years - you use a recipe the first time or two, and then take it from there in the future.

Rosa it sounds like you're slowly getting settled - as for the plants - well, you know you want a bit of colour out there, and so getting something that will provide that despite the sun conditions - good for you :) The important thing is that you've got somewhere you can go out and enjoy sitting outside and be in a pleasant surrounding :)

Well, hubby, kids and I are all off for the week - I do so love having term holidays off with all of them :) Went to a disappointing ice hockey game last night - the visiting team had several of their fast players off the ice - so was not that eventful :( But still fun :)

My 10 year old has come down from his room with a wad of that slime stuff kids play with all the time - knotted throughout his hair.....Hmmm, think it's haircut day for him!!!

Hope everybody has a great day :)

    Morning Rosa and everyone,

Felt a bit down yesterday and couldn't be bothered to do much apart from some ironing so will have to make a start on the rest today.Luckily I don't mind irioning so never find it a chore unlike my friends who walk about in creased looking clothes:D

Just seen my favourite actor on the telly{Colin Firth and see looks as Gorgeous as ever:luv:

Rosa, sounds like you are getting your flat sorted and I hope the weather improves as it has been quiet we and damp these last few days.I would rather have it cold and dry than damp:p

Couldn't get out last night for a walk as it was raining so hit the trampette instead while the olympics were on and did quiet a bit of walking on that:D

I've just weighed myself this morning and have lost another lb in weight so me increasing my food intake a bit more has helped:p

Hope you all have a great day:)

    Good morning everyone,

    rosa, enjoy your shopping. :thumb:

Kandy, I hope you are feeling better today :thmb:. When it's raining you could always pop over and do our ironing as well :hehe:.

It rained all night last night but has stopped this morning. I still haven't caught up on all my paperwork :(. Maybe all the breaks I have for cuppas and a bit of reading don't help :).

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning everybody!

Kandy hope you're feeling better today - I'm watching the Olympics too - wish the hockey games were on this week though, as we're back to work/school next week and they're on at 3:45 am! arghhhhh Will have to record and watch later I guess :( Glad that you have beena ble to sort out your food intake - it'll take time to get the right balance for you - but stay positive!

Rosa -your curtains sound so cute :) Looking forward to seeing pics once you get your decking done - don't forget to take before and after pics so you can really appreciate how much work you've done afterwards.

Shiney I've got a really long list of things for hubby to do - he's behind as well :)

Woo - hope you have a good and safe day too :)

Pancake Tuesday today - kids have just reminded me, and I forgot to get maple syrup - so off up the store to see if they have any. All slept in this morning as up late watching the men's snowboarding last night

Will get out and do a little more general 'after winter' cleanup out in the garden today - lots of sloping banks around the house we let go last year to see what was in there, and have determined that there's nothing worth keeping but......we knowit's all chalk underneath - so not really too much we can do with it plant wise. But...the brambles all over it have to go - or at least be severely tamed.

Have a great day everybody. :)

    Morning friends :)
Kandy I got weighed at WW yesterday, had lost only one pound but that's 5 pounds now. At least it is going the right way!

It is bitterly cold here, raining and dull. I am happy though :)

Natalie I have loads to do outside but it isn't my kind of weather to go outside :hehe:
Rosa you must be overjoyed to have a back garden now.
Shiney at least you get breaks whilst working....
Woo have a lovely day whatever you are doing, I hope you have some sunshine.

Good morning Rosa Woo and everyone,

Sounds like everyone is busy at the moment so I am not the only one.:D The weather here has been really cold these last few days with hail showers but at least we managed our evening walk last night and as it wasn't windy like it usually is we had a longer walk although we have to be careful where there are no lights round the village as I keep veering off of the path and Mr Kandy has to keep pulling me back on course.I never have been able to walk a straight line, hic:D

I spent yesterday afternoon down in the greenhouse sorting out the strawberry plants my friend let me dig up last autumn from her plot but as they have been sitting in trays over the winter a lot of the roots had rotted when the compost got cold and wet:oops: Hopefully I shall get some good plants out of those that are left to plant on the lottie:D

Hope you all have a great day in the warm:)

    Good morning everyone,

It rained all day yesterday and most of the night but has stopped now :thumb:.

I hope all of you are feeling a lot better and continue to improve as spring is fast approaching. :)

woo, I never get my paperwork finished. It's like 'painting the Forth Bridge' :hehe:. I wonder whether that saying will go out of fashion when they stop painting the bridge in 2012!!!

I'll get some more paperwork done this morning befor going off to another charity event at lunchtime.

    Have a great day :D

Good morning everyone, we had a frost overnight now its bright and sunny if a little bit cold. Just back from taking Anne to the dentist, quick coffee then out into the garden.

Shiney, thats interesting...I wonder what will replace that saying? My offering..."Like repairing the M25" anyone else have a modern slant on the forth bridge saying?

    Steve...:)
