    Morning everyone.

Shiney, apparently mice are evolving to avoid cheese! Cheddar-loving rodents get squished in traps - Darwin in action. Tuna works very well, if you can bear the smell after it's been in the trap for a couple of hours. Couldn't Oscar give you a hand? William was a brilliant mouser for many years, but he's a retired gent now. He tends to get exhausted/bored quickly and then lets the darn things loose under the sofa.:heehee:

    Good morning everyone.

Clare, apparently chocolate and peanut butter are the best things to attract mice to the trap. We've got another one in the trap this morning :thumb:.

Oscar is an outdoor cat but he is allowed in the kitchen but the mouse doesn't seem to be there when Oscar's around. He came in yesterday morning when the mouse was in the trap and sat in front of the cupboard with his nose against the door. That's how we know the mouse was in it :). Mrs shiney is about to take the mouse for walkies. :heehee:

It's student day today so I'm on kitchen duty cooking their lunch - and doing the washing up. This evening we have friends coming for dinner. Their kitchen has been gutted by fire so they are being fed by friends. The place has been stripped out and, hopefully, shouldn't take too long to refit.

Last night'd frost has cleared but it doesn't look too bright out there.

    Have a great day :D

Morning Shiney, Woo and everyone. I awoke this morning with a bunged up nose and thick head(thicker than usual:WINK1:)

This is the second cold in the past couple of months which is unusual for me. I ve not had a cold for years. Must be the old age creeping in ( the big half century for me on Paddys day)

A grey and frosty morning here in Manchester. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend:thumbsup:

    Good morning everyone,

Sorry I haven't been around much these last few days but for a couple of days at the end part of last week I wasn't feeling 100% and then out of the blue Friday teatime had a phone call informing me that my best friend of 23 years had passed away :cry3: We both had been poorly over Christmas but had chatted on the phone and Thanked each other for our cards and prezzies both over Christmas and the New Year but the bad cold she had turned into a chest infection and then to fluid on the lungs. She was on several lots of antibiotics which didn't do any good and the fluid on the lungs brought on a heart attack and there was talk at one point of getting her to Oxford for a heart transplant but they were full so she was transffered to Coventry Hospital where the fluid was taken off her lungs and an Angiograph was done and the surgeon was preparing to do a triple bypass operation on Friday morning but alas it wasn't too be and she had a fatal heart attack in the early hours of Friday morning after needing to spend a penny.

At least the end was quick and she never suffered, and my only regret was not being able to see her to say goodbye for that last time.

Rita was more than a friend to me,more like a surrogate mum after i lost my own mum in 1990 even though we had already become friends.I feel like part of me has died and just writng this has started me off again. :cry3:

If any of you have mums and friends still alive please look after them as you never know just how long you will have them for.

I am waiting at the moment to hear when the funeral is going to be as her family have to travel to Coventry today to get the paper work sorted before they can proceed with the next stage.

    RIP Rita 27/09/39 - 21/01/11

I will try to get back on here as and when i can so all please Take Care.

    Kandy :)

    Good afternoon everyone,

Kandy, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Our best wishes go out to you and the family.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get through the semi-final and qualify for the final. Thanks Marley :thumb:.

I've just come back from a check up at the dentist and he says I'm doing well for an old 'un. :heehee:
    Chiropodist this afternoon.

We have Supermouse in residence. We noticed that there had been mice in our cupboard under the kitchen sink and they seem to be getting in from outside (no evidence of mice anywhere else) so I shall have to see whether there are any gaps around the wastepipes.

We put down a baited humane trap and the first morning there was a mouse in it. He was transported to a field down the road. We baited the trap again (cheddar cheese) and the next morning there was another mouse (different one). He also went on holiday with free transport.

We were still getting evidence of mouse activity although the trap was now not being tripped. So we had to put down some rat poison. Supermouse seems to have a good idea about what to do with poisoned grain. We found that the outer coating on the grain appears to have been scraped off and the just grain eaten. Although we baited the trap the bait was disappearing without the trap having tripped. This morning the bait was gone, the trap had obviously tripped and the door has been bent out of shape - no mouse!!!

    Update later in week.

I wish all my GC friends the best of health :dbgrtmb:

    Have a great day :D

Kandy....... I am so so sorry to hear that... It is so hard to lose someone when you know there may be a chance for them....... My thoughts are with you as I lost 2 very very close friends last year... I am sorry you couldn't be with Rita to say your goodbyes, but sometimes we don't need to say them as the person knows......
Just hard for us left behind with no one to answer that question...... "Why.... Why that person"..???

My thoughts are with you Kandy & also with Rita's family... So hard......
Keap that chin up & a smile for Rita & her memory.....

    Love from
