    Good morning everyone,

    Wow! penny, that's cold

I've managed to get a little bit of gardening done in the last couple of days and have started on tidying up the edges of the lawns. Only another 600 ft to go :heehee:

It's a bit icy out there at the moment but I have to sort out our drains. When we have a lot of rain the soakaway from our cesspool stops working because the ground is saturated. The drains then back up and sometimes (as has happened now) they don't clear themselves and get blocked. Now they've backed up right to the house so I shall have to get Mrs shiney to help me lift the three manhole covers so I can get to work on them. Not the best of jobs :rolleyespink:

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning everyone,

The drain job yesterday was rather unpleasant. Mrs shiney helped me lift the manhole covers which have the paving slabs built into them. It took two hours of rodding to get it cleared right down to the cesspit and then I came across another problem .
Before I could finish the job I needed to hose down the rods as I was taking them apart, hose down the patio around the manholes, get Mrs shiney to give a hand putting the covers back and then hose down the covers.
Normally this would be fairly easy, although mucky, but the hose was completely frozen. I had to find my spare 75' hose somewhere in the back of the shed, remove all the connectors from the frozen hose (including the one to connect to the tap), fit them on the spare, hose everything down, take everything apart and then refit the main hose. All this was made a lot harder by having frozen fingers that couldn't feel much.
On the up side, I had a good laugh when Mrs shiney came out with an improvised face mask on because of the awful smell :heehee:. By the time she came out I had got used to the smell and hardly noticed it. The smell didn't bother Oscar and he was there 'helping' me all the time until I got the hose out. :heehee:

The charity that we support with our open garden and our other fundraising efforts has just made a little video about themselves and posted it on You Tube. I'll post it on a thread somewhere on here when I get a moment. :thumb:

    Have a great day :D

    Good morning afternoon everyone:)

Hope you are all in good health and coping with stinky cess pits, frozen hose pipes, very low temperatures, painting sheds and garden walls etc.:D

I will be honest and say i haven't felt much like posting these last few days but hopefully will be back in the swing of things in the near future or there abouts:P

I have aconites in full flower, snowdrops in bud and plenty of greenshoots of recovery popping up through the soil plus have green leaf buds about to open on my cherry tree and on Sunday when out walking with Mr Kandy last Sunday {cheaper than driving anywhere}saw our first Spring lambs of the year which i think were born round Christmas time.Spring is getting nearer by the day me thinks:)

Today I am having a good clear out of stuff upstairs now that we have an empty dustbin and have boxed up loads of reading books that will go off to a Charity shop for someone to buy cheap and enjoy...

Hope you all have a good day :)
