Whiley, sorry to hear the horrendous treatment your mum got at the hospital :(. I would have given them a right earfull :).

Bonfires: you don't need to cover them at all. At this time of year the cuttings (wood and leaves) take just a little longer to dry up but it will all be dry enough by November. Once they are dry they don't need a lot to get them going. Whether it has been raining or not makes very little difference.

Do NOT use any accelerant (e.g. petrol). Newspaper is usually all that is needed. Take individual pages and screw them up lightly and shove them under the lower parts of the bonfire. The simplest way to light these (if you don't have any tapers etc) is to take another page of the newspaper and twist about two thirds of it into a fairly tight strip just leaving the top end not twisted. Light the top end (which will start to burn fairly quickly) and use that to light the paper you have put under the edges of your bonfire. The tight twists will stop it burning quickly down to your hand.

Protecting hedgehogs is difficult. If the pile is not too big then get the men to move, check for hogs and then put it back. Otherwise all you can do is poke long stick into it to try and make them run out. We rarely have trouble with hogs but mice and rabbits come out pretty quickly once we have lit the fire.

Use a hose to damp down the plants around the fire and keep the hose ready whilst the fire is burning so that you can damp anything that may be in danger.

    Good luck :thumb: :luv:

Dark has gone and it is now sunny :thmb:

Kandy, it was lucky that I saw him having his bonfire and got my hose across to him before he had burnt down more than one fence panel :lollol:

    Morning guys and girls.

Have a couple of days off because I have been feeling a little poorly still not 100% but I'm getting there.

I notice the change on the site I think I need to play catch-up to find out what's what boy I hope it isn't too hard to understand otherwise I'm doomed!

I was going to start sorting my Halloween decorations out soon but got a bomb shell from one of our sons as he might have a gaming lan that week, hope it doesn't sound too mean but I wish it was the week before or the one afterwards as I so do really love a good Halloween the dressing up and all sure makes you feel a kid again.....oh well if it's not to be then I will have to wait until next year.Hel.xxx.

    Morning all.

    Thanx Capney you're a sweetie.

Got to give myself a good kick up the butt today so much to be done around the house a couple of days off and you are left with floors that need a blooming good hover/clean and washing that would fill The Black Hole Of Calcutta!

The boys do their best but it's not as good as mum's although Bob has done a wonderful job at washing the pots...bless him I think I'll keep him. Hel.xxx.
