Loli, I don't blame them for wanting the shade

Too hot yesterday but did some weeding, trimming back and sowing. I wanted to do the mowing but it was too hot. So I'll have a go at 8 a.m. today.

We need another load of compost so I'll be off to Wickes again for another 5 x 70 litres. It only took two weeks to use the last lot!

We had the sprinkler on most of the day yesterday as the surface was too hard from planting or digging. It didn't need too much in each area, just about an hour each. The sprinkler that I now use is very good and can do the whole of the veg plot in just two goes.

We had our new all singing, all dancing TV delivered yesterday. Picture and sound are excellent but no singing or dancing at the moment. I'd paid for them to get it up and running but they couldn't get it to connect to the internet. The WiFi part kept reporting 'no connection'. They, and myself, checked three times that the correct code was being put in but it didn't work.

So they'll be arranging an expert engineer to call. I guess that the TV is too far from the router to pick up the signal - although laptops can do it from that distance. In which case, I think there may be only two possible solutions. Hardwiring (over 45ft ) or a booster somewhere. That's the engineer's job .

If you're feeling a bit frazzled by the time you get here then pull into the driveway towards the carport and come in for a cuppa. You can move the car when you've calmer - or one of our helpers can park it for you. They can bring it back for you when you want to go. Just tell Valerie (taking the entrance money) that I said someone would park the car for you. Then just find me or mention it to Ian on the bookstall. I'll let them know in advance.

Too much to do in the garden and not enough time to do it! I need a robot mower to do the lawns at first light on Saturday.

It's my regular visit to the hygienist this morning.

Well, it is a bit cooler today and looks as though we may get some of the much needed rain over the next day or two.

We're running out of time for getting everything ready but we'll do the best we can.

Clearing the carport ready for the weekend is a major job. We use it similar to the way people use their garage and shed - to store things that are not needed immediately (although some are) but are needed fairly often. The easy things to clear are the gardening tools and accessories (spades, forks, rakes, shears, a bucket full of hand tools, nine buckets and weed buckets, canes, bags of compost etc.). The other things are not so easy - stacks of all different size glass (for glass making and very heavy), lots of flower arranging gear, even yoga mats. Plus, of course, the inevitable 'we might need it some time' things!

When I've finished running the afternoon bridge club I shall collect six of the 6ft tables (will store them in the car port ) before I have to rush off to a bridge match that will take me to midnight. That'll give me enough time to write my chairman's report for the AGM tomorrow
