Good morning to everyone from a very damp Lykewakewalker and Bailey. Fog again this morning and it is the kind that wets you through, the only blessing is that it is quite mild out.
I remember it well @shiney, only 200 years ago was it? My old dad used to call him "the whistling fool", I don't think that he was too keen on him.

Good morning all from a wet Lykewakewalker and Bailey. The fog is worse this morning than at any time this week and it is the kind that wets you through, good job that it is quite warm.
I remember it well @shiney, was it only 200 years ago? My old dad used to call him "the whistling fool", I don't think he was too impressed with him!
      Have a good day all.

@lykewakewalker I thought he did a reasonable job of the song and that he was a good whistler. :noidea:

Burl Ives did it well, also, but I was being patriotic - sort of! :heehee: Roger Whittaker is a British citizen but was born in Nairobi and now lives in France. He, like Mrs Shiney and myself, has celebrated his golden wedding this year.

I quite liked him myself, however I did prefer Burl Ives. It was my dad who didn't like him, he loved what he called "proper singers" such as Josef Locke.

Burl Ives has a very nice and gentle voice but I thought he slowed the song down too much.

Yes he did. As a very young teenager I was part of a group called The Green Grass Boys, we did a couple of Burl Ives numbers including Big Rock Candy Mountain, I remember that in our adolescent way we thought it was funny to swap the first letter of a couple of the title words while we were singing ;) . I played the drums (actually drum, I only had a snare and a hi hat) Our claim to fame was that our guitarists guitar was borrowed by a local group and appeared with them on Opportunity Knocks, they didn't win but I don't think it was the guitars fault.
Those early days gave me a love of country style music that I still have.

I like Country, Blues, Jazz, Folk and some other styles. Obviously, I liked the pop of the 50's and 60's and the Standards of the 20's - 60's. I suppose that's almost everything  :heehee:

@shiney, We are in danger of changing the whole direction of Wakey Wakey so I will make this my last post.
Like you I enjoy all music, my favourite male singer is Nat King Cole and Rita Coolidge is my favourite female artiste.
Having said that I can be seen with the best of them singing along at The Last Night of the Proms and I am a firm believer that the 60's will never be surpassed for popular music. We, along with lots of others I suspect, have truly catholic musical tastes.

Okay, it is 8 pm here, or 1 am your time. So, wakey wakey, in 4 or 5 hours.

I will be starting my "keep up the good work" conversations with my veggie plants. We're not expected to go below freezing unti lthe end of the month. Sooo excited that my brussel sprouts might produce. Newbie at this and just love my cole vegetables.
so, as your feet hit the floor, know that I am slumbering and dreaming about getting out there tòo!

A foggy start again here but the sun should burn through later.

                          Aloha everyone,

The sun is up again this morning but just a little bit hazy at the moment. It's still bright enough to be producing a little bit of electricity for me :blue thumb: I've been thanking it for all the hard work it has been doing this week :)

I've sorted out Barry's Blue Badge problem . The man I spoke to was very helpful and even thanked me for taking the time to sort things out for a disabled person. He said that they have lots of problems because some people don't have others to help them. They've now waived the need for personal I.D. as long as I send them a copy of his Higher Rate Disability Living Allowance agreement - and a photo to go on his Badge.

He had another problem that took longer to sort. This was with the local authority and the removal of things by the Heavy Squad. Barry had been trying to sort it out for some people in a couple of other flats in his block (they have even more disabilities than Barry!). It got quite complicated as there were a number of misunderstandings, wrong information and wrong dates  It took 15 minutes of discussion with Barry and his neighbours to try and sort out the muddled situation sufficiently for me to understand what should have happened and what actually happened. Then a 45 minute conversation with the Council (having to get higher approval!) before everything got sorted amicably - I hope. The stuff will be collected next Thursday :fingers crossed:

With travelling into town, sorting out the problems (including trying to get through on the phone to these places :thud:) it was most of my day used up. So I'm playing catch up today.

Keep well and have a great day

                          Aloha!

Low mist and sunshine this morning

Anyone got a pic of what to wear period costume wise for an Art Deco event? Only got today to sort it out :hate-shocked:

Have a good day everyone :)
